Of course, on parade day, I have a kid who is truly sick and missing school. Took him to urgent care mostly to get the note (although partially to make sure it wasn't the flu, even though he got the flu shot).

I'm sure it varies from school to school/district to district. I normally don't take the kids to the doctor/urgent care unless it's strep (I can tell based on their behavior), so I don't get notes. So our school considers those "unexcused absences". When we hit 5, you get a letter threatening to hold them back if it continues. I've gotten letters nearly every year.

Since our school implemented a policy that students who have less than three absences (excused or unexcused makes no difference) are not required to take finals, Lil' Vulture has dragged herself to school several times when it probably would have been better for her to stay home.

Kids’ (and wife’s) school announced they are taking away Presidents’ Day weekend as snow make-up days. My school is not. Is this heaven?

Just noticed the guy who serves the food in the school dining hall is the same guy who comes around and cleans the bathrooms. Looks like I'll be packing my lunches from now on
