His death turned a movie based on comic books into THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE for a while.

Speaking of death, Hugh Masakela's led me on a short internet wandering to this version of Pata pata, performed by Miriam Makeba at age 74 two years before her death.

So, in that small way, Hugh's death made me feel better for a while. I'm sure that makes it worth it to him.

His attacks started getting really personal IIRC, same with Youseff, and with wwry. I think most revolved around JH, so perhaps he should have been banned instead (jk).

Just thinking about the doc today. He did cross the line, but I was hoping he was just put on double secret probation.

One of our dogs turned 15 a few weeks ago. Our youngest son LOVES this dog. He is always hugging her and calling her his best girl. We have to remind him not to squeeze her too tight because she is old and can’t tell him when it is too much. She had been on prednisone for a long time and had a large, benign growth on her cheek, but she was still eating, going outside, coming up to bed, etc. Doc checked her out last week and everything was more or less fine. We’d been anticipating it for years, but she didn’t come to bed last night.

She was sprawled on the floor next to the makeshift bed of blankets my wife set out for her and wouldn’t respond to her name, treats, or even me rubbing her ears. Her nose was ice-cold, but she was breathing and her eyes were opening. I picked her up and took her up to her bed. I sat with her, rubbed her ears some more, and told her she was a good girl. I called work to let them know I would be late. She died an hour later.

15 years is a long life for a dog. Ellie never asked for much- in recent years she would just take what she wanted. I think she knew she didn’t have much time. She wasn’t going to wait around for scraps, even though her surgically-repaired leg would buckle when she would steal food from the table.

We all loved our Ellie Belly. Now we are faced with explaining this to the kids. They went to school not knowing anything- assuming she was hiding somewhere in the house. They’ve lost a dog before, but they were both far too young to know what happened or what questions to ask. We’ve tried to prepare them, but now she’s actually gone. It’s going to be a rough afternoon.

You know it’s not going to be a happy story when it starts with “my dog just turned 15 recently” that’s terrible. Hope the kids don’t take it too hard
