I'm not sure what difference the Clinton stuff really makes though--it's a pretty obvious deflection. And it's easy to say "yeah, I probably shouldn't have voted for Clinton".

I do think one problem with people like Bill Clinton and to a much greater extent Trump is that their effectiveness is greatly diminished by their lack of impulse control. Clinton could have accomplished so much more as President if he had been more disciplined.

There's obviously a decent amount of tribalism here, but the problem with the "I don't care about what he's done, as long as he votes how I want" is that you're sending a message that it's ok for certain people to abuse their power and get away with sexual assault. I mean, this is in fact the case in lots of organizations, but it's not right.

Defending Moore or Franken along these lines is really no different than saying Ezekiel Elliot should get to play because he's good at football and that entitles to assault whoever he wants.

Collins is a no on the tax bill

Johnson is a no but wants to say yes

McCain said it's 'not regular order'

3 is all it takes. i honestly have no idea why they attached the mandate to this or decided to couple it with Graham-Cassidy. They turned Collins from a probably yes to a no and McCain from a probable yes to a probable no.

I'm hoping 'not regular order' is a good sign. What about Paul and Corker?

Corker is a 'reading it', same as Flake and Murkowski

It's not in the Senate bill, I don't think. It's indefensible as policy, and doesn't generate much revenue.

I don't think actively harming higher ed is the point, but I do think it's a huge blindspot in a body where most people who went to grad school are lawyers or doctors, and they paid for it. Fair enough to some extent, but it's not income.

I think the prism through which to view all these issues is that in order to pay for the tax breaks for their donors (especially such important policy issues like eliminating the tax of private aircraft maintenance contracts) the Pubs had to scrounge around in every nook and cranny to find offsets. So there's no particular rhyme or reason or policy imperative driving the decisions about whom to screw. However, to the extent the red state pubs can screw blue state citizens and/or anything which smacks of liberal elitism it's an added bonus for them.

"Al Franken was a brand new news story yesterday, and the president weighed in as he does on the news of the day often enough,” Conway told Fox News Friday morning. “The Roy Moore story is eight days old and the president put out a statement during his Asia trip on that. And since then, our press secretary has spoken on behalf of the president saying that he believes the people of Alabama will sort out what to do with Roy Moore and with that election.”

Reminder, this dirt bag is still circling the drain as part of the administration.

PSA - At least 16 women have accused Trump of sexual misconduct all of which he vehemently denied during the campaign.

A curious question is what happened to #ThemToo ?

It's more than grad students, though that's obviously the biggest impact. But lots of universities (including my own) provide tuition remission for dependents as part of their benefits package. For low income employees of universities, this is a significant benefit.

Can someone point me to a good read on the impact in this area?
