Allergies? Skittles are generally allergy-friendly, while KitKats are not (at least for peanut allergy).

I had a kitkat recently, and compared to other chocolate bars, it was overly sweet. But skittles are even sweeter (though they're tart too so I dunno.)

NICE

I could see my three-year-old steering his hand away from his favorites when passing out the candy and was pretty proud

Laffy Taffy isn't too bad depending on the flavor but it's always an uphill climb trading non-chocolate for chocolate
Even if you get run over by a clown car and pissed on by a busload of school children, it's still your responsibility to interpret the meaning of the event and choose a response

Wow, I must've missed the part where Bill's kid didn't actually give up the skittles & laffy taffy!

My buddy, who happens to be a monster--like 6'3" 280 lbs--had a 8-9 year old kid grab a huge handful of Reese's cups, tell him to "suck it," and then sprint away

I laughed so hard. almost admire the kid

Didn't even realize...

Candy sorting is at my house is an effin nightmare now that the toddler is trick or treating, and was made even worse when the grandparents got involved Halloween night.

Skittles are legit. They're like my warmup for KitKat and Twix though

So my oldest daughter here is 6 years old. Her french is very good for that age and the daycare people said her french was the best of the english-speaking kids. She was really popular in her class at the local french-speaking school. Her teachers even mentioned that fact at our meeting to end the year. It seemed like every other weekend was another b-day party and she was always getting invited for sleepovers and other stuff. She was really acclimated and loved it there.

But now we are in the swiss german-speaking area and she's really having a tough time. The kids are being horrible to her, calling her names like Lady Gaga and cheesefoot (ok, both kinda funny if not for the fallout). She doesn't understand what's going on in class half the time, though it's getting better. The upsetting thing is that she is so relentlessly social and positive that it really breaks my heart to see her so upset. There's a playground behind our apartment and she goes out there to find kids to play with. Almost all of them make fun of her and are mean to her, but she just follows them all around, hoping they'll let her play and be her friends. She really is relentless with it, and I can see how she had so many friends at the old school. She wants to be friends with EVERYONE.

I'm concerned because I'm afraid she's going to lose that positive drive to be near the other kids. She's comes in crying a lot and has been begging us to take her to see her old friends (we can't afford it right now). We told her she can call them and she's done some of that. I feel like the local kids will accept her as she learns the language, so we've been doing what we can to help in that regard. As of right now though, she really doesn't have any friends, except for one english speaker at school who isn't in her class. They see each other during breaks.

Anyone have any advice or experience with this kind of thing? Not the language part, but the fitting in and adjusting part? I can see from the balcony how the kids are treating her and it's just heartbreaking. I keep encouraging her that things will get better and that she should gravitate to the kids who aren't so awful to her, figuring that some don't mind her but are bowing to the wills of the meaner kids.

Any advice?

Thanks, I have tried to do some of that, but you're probably right I should do more. The weather turning bad should make it easier. Also, I was thinking of just throwing rocks from the balcony and some of the kids. What could go wrong?

That has to be heartbreaking, monkeyboy. I like the rock part. Is the any way you can schedule her for an activity a couple afternoons or so a week where she can meet new kids with a common interest rather than hang around these jerks?

Milty's not wrong, and it would be nice if she could just hang out with a couple kids that treat her with respect, rather than a bunch of krautwaffles, but good friends can be hard to find and it's not her inclination, so changing the environment is all I t can think of.
You don't have to call me darlin', Darlin'. But you never even call me by my name.
