I still want some running total of the cost of the Trumps to the public. Golfer in chief's trips to Florida are about $3M a trip. $1M or so a day to secure Trump Tower. The aforementioned $97K to protect Donnie Jr in Uruguay. What other expenses are there? The press should make a bolder mention of this (there is an OpEd in the NYT, but I want a story), maybe it is timing on like day 99 to completely bird splatter the first 100 days. With the NY security expense it should be over $100M, so maybe it is north of $125M in unnecessary expenses.

One problem with the calculation (the NYC cost VS the NEA, which is to be shuttered anyway) is incomplete data and flawed projections. Politifact give it a Mostly False rating.

The Daily podcast has a 20 minute primer on Stephen Miller, if you want. What a twit. Here's some reading if you want.

The fringe of the fringe is currently trying to run our country.

I had no idea that Andrew Jackson was as highly regarded as he apparently is. I would have thought the Trail of Tears was worth knocking him out of the top 10.

he's on a dollar so people see the wavy hair; he also 'told it like it was'...which usually means racist shit

also helped contribute to a huge downfall in the economy, so that's fun

I thought this was a great interview. Democrats would be wise to pay attention.

Why? It's not as if Jim Webb ever saw eye to eye with the Democrats on social or economic issues. He was only ever marginally a Democrat and mostly got attention from progressives for his opposition to the Iraq War and call for prison reform. He never even makes it to DC if George Allen doesn't refer to a brown kid as "macaca."

He has reasonable ideas on multiculturalism and moving away from outdated notions of racial divides in our country, but he is throwing his hat in with a group of people who believe in the antithesis of that simply because they also want to eliminate affirmative action programs... for an entirely different--and far less altruistic--reason.

So no, that's not a lesson that the Democrats should be learning from.

German players were shocked when an American soloist sang a long-outdated version of the national anthem. The U.S. may have outplayed Germany in this weekend’s Fed Cup quarterfinal, but the Americans made a major off-court gaffe. Before Germany’s Andrea Petkovic and Alison Riske of the U.S. took the court in Hawaii, a singer inadvertently performed a long-banned Nazi-era version of the country’s national anthem.

“I thought it was the epitome of ignorance, and I’ve never felt more disrespected in my whole life, let alone in Fed Cup, and I’ve played Fed Cup for 13 years now,” Petkovic told the Associated Press. “It is the worst thing that has ever happened to me.” The version of the anthem sung Saturday used a verse with strong nationalist messages, including the line “Deutschland, Deutschland ueber alles,” which translates to “Germany, Germany above all else.”

German coach Barbara Rittner told the AFP she considered snatching the microphone from the singer. “I could have cried, because it is always a special moment, which gives you goosebumps, when you hear the anthem being played,” Rittner said. The USTA offered “sincere apologies” for the mistake in a statement. “In no way did we mean any disrespect,” the statement said. “This mistake will not occur again.”

Kinda fitting and sad at the same time.

Jim Webb is simply a Republican that doesn't want to be surrounded by a bunch of crazies so he calls himself a Democrat. Other Democrats listening to him for 'far left' or 'divisiveness' answers should hope the Republicans reform themselves so he can go back with them. He has some ideas on economics and justified wars but they'd be better served reforming the Republican party.

Perhaps he can grab the people that believe in 'reverse racism', which are surely the emerging base of the Democratic party.

The interview had nothing to do with Webb's views or positions. More a general discussion on the Democratic Party punting with the white, working class and moving towards constant identity politics.

'white working class' is an identity as much as any other and you're playing identity politics if you try to grab it
