Whether the WH confirms/denies/ignores requests for comments, that's a pretty massive hole in the middle of the story.

Pence is delivering a foreign policy speech in Germany tomorrow. Trump will hold a rally in Florida tomorrow.

OK.

There's exactly nothing in the AP story to substantiate their headline that Trump is considering mobilizing the national guard to do this. Whether the WH confirms/denies/ignores requests for comments, that's a pretty massive hole in the middle of the story.

The AP's tweet was based on an 11-page memo they obtained, they tried to get official comment from the WH and DHS with no response.

It was an 11 page memo written by DHS. The headline of their article is "Trump weighs mobilizing Nat Guard for immigration roundups" - They make a claim about Trump, which is not borne out by the text of the article. Maybe he's weighing it, maybe not. Maybe he knows of this plan's existence, maybe not. There's certainly nothing in the article that demonstrates Trump is aware of this or making a decision about it.

While the administration is a deeply irresponsible cesspool of crap, and the idea that they were refusing comment only to spring up and shout FAKE NEWS is plausible and destructive, the AP should limit the claims it makes to that which they can back up. If you get out over your skis and make factually dubious assertions, it makes swatting down what you're reporting as 100% fake easier even if there are interesting/troubling & true aspects to the story.

I filled out that Trump-sent survey about fake news and they asked for donations at the end of it. Is that legal? It wasn't clear where those donations would go...

Its legal, and a pretty common direct mail strategy.

I must've missed that level of consideration when the AP did something much worse in their story about the Clinton Foundation and Trump/GOP praised it incessantly.

FTR, the first line in the story and in the subheadline on their front page is "Trump administration considers mobilizing," so I think the context is fully there, even if I understand your point.

Well, it sounds like he essentially wanted the ability to boot Bannon and KT McFarland out. There's nothing worse than doing a difficult job and having incompetent people surrounding you.

He'd get my vote. Actually, just based on their bios, Harward was the guy I was hoping would end up in the position. His declination might be all we need to know.

At least 48 people have been killed in Baghdad in the third blast in the Iraqi capital in three days, security and medical sources say.
A car packed with explosives blew up near car dealerships in the Shia area of Bayaa in the south of the city. More than 50 people were injured.
The Islamic State (IS) group claimed the attack, saying it targeted "a gathering of Shias".
At least 24 people were killed in other attacks on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Baghdad saw a wave of deadly suicide attacks by IS in the first few days of 2017, but the number had dropped until recently.
