We might have the most informed general electorate of all time. Not sure how we'd measure that. The most educated, with the best access to information, with the highest IQs (probably, since IQs are slowly trending upward over time). Not sure if the blame can be placed on an incurious electorate here. Perhaps you're hinting at attitudes related to incuriousness -- for example, the downfall of the perception of "experts" -- that I could get behind.

I've dealt with a few Brits that are like this. I deal with one guy who thinks he is the world's gift to military doctrine. He's a hoot, he's so outspoken that he can't even realize the basic infantry tactics he espouses could be found in a 1939 British Army regulation. He's become a laughingstock - another tactic he uses is the "I live in Israel for six months of the year, so I know exactly how deal with Islamic terrorists." Better than most, granted, but "Islamic Terrorist" covers a whole lot of territory.

The U of London program is interesting though. They generally have excellent PhDs teaching. We send a few guys a year there to get their PhD.

I just think the British military is just about irrelevant about the battalion level. I had to suffer through this during my last Afghanistan deployment. My Deputy Plans Chief was a British Army Colonel, he cornered me one day and whispered "I've been specially trained to conduct Corps-level planning and operations."

Yeah sir, so have I. And this was my second combat deployment with a multi-national Corps HQ. And I was still a Major...

It's really sad to see how far they've fallen, they can't even deploy a single Division sized element.

He's a pompous #$!&@.

Thinks he can solve the problem of radical Islam with a few minor policy tweaks.

Reductionist thinking personified.

thephan wrote:Because I'm not a big consumer of Fox News I did not know this as shat, Sebastian Gorka. Nothing like some Russian named British accented pampas tool describing what a republic looks like. Because he basically goes on to describe something between a monarchy and a dictatorship. he clearly stated that executive orders are from the highest level of government and they must be respected and they must be acted on. Someone here clearly does not know how a republic works. He also seems to disbelieve the protest, it's not that they're not real, it's just that the election happened this is what we voted for so this is what we get, and it would seem that somehow the vote meant that we were giving up all of our liberties.

I will be honest, I hoped you would chime in. He sounds like a hot blast of air, and he completely reminded me of his peers out of that program. Your confirmation makes me doubt that whole program. I also wondered how/why general citizenry in the UK is getting their PhD's in crazy stuff like asymmetric warfare, and the like. That is not like a policy wonk degree in my optic. I could see state sponsored military colleges (i.e., war college) being involved, but my shallow grasp of UoL makes it seem like an odd fit.

not so concerned anymore about State, as our "foreign policy" will essentially be military saber-rattling by Flynn, with back-walking by Mattis, until he gets pissed about it and caves Flynn's and Bannon's and drumpf's faces in

Tillerson will just be back there somewhere quietly grifting

We might be consuming more data, but we don't use critical thinking skills, much of our populace doesn't vote, and the ones that do vote often don't demonstrate any critical thinking skills. I saw it on the left with folks thinking there was a conspiracy by Hillary to keep Bernie off the Warriors playoff TNT broadcast, and I see it on the right with Pizzagate, this stupid Soros obsession, the birther crisis, and voting for a barely literate reality TV star for president and elevating him to a heroic, iconic status. We spend all of our time collectively watching horrible reality TV and obsessing over the lives of celebrities. Trump has more major, fact based scandals than any candidate since Lyndon Larouche, and he probably laps Larouche 20X over, and yet a substantial part of our populace still thinks he's a good, god fearing man.

As a people we are more our racist uncle than we are the good and pure intentions some of us are deluded into thinking we all have.

yeah, they can pretend, and if millions of us are willing to pretend that an awful man is a good man, it shows that we deserve him.

He's going to make a speech right? And it's likely to be about Trump, right? I wonder if various military type people get pissed when that happens.

Yeah, if this is truly to pass along condolences in person, I will briefly applaud CEO Trump. It will, however, likely turn into a "Hey, look at me" moment for our TV Host-in-Chief.

she's staying in Manhattan, bankrupting our PD. not a huge leap of logic to assume she's not a fan of being around him, or vice-versa.
