the state Republican Party is coming for Philly:

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The largest Republican majority in the Pennsylvania state Senate in nearly 70 years is wasting no time in flexing its conservative muscle, advancing bills that ultimately could test whether a veto by Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf can withstand an override vote.

In the Senate's first full week of the new two-year session, a Senate committee advanced legislation that would kill Philadelphia's sick-leave law, and any other municipal law like it, and punish sanctuary cities by withholding state grant dollars.
More committee votes are planned, including on legislation to make it harder for public-sector labor unions to collect member contributions through paycheck deductions.

Not really understanding the urgency to understand these voters who numbered 3 MILLION fewer than the people who voted for the candidate who lost, and who lost thanks almost entirely due to our peculiar selection process.

"Understanding" the views of a relative handful of ...unusual...voters in MI, PA, & WI seems well down the priorities list. People who genuinely "understand their situations" almost certainly did not vote for drumph. If you "genuinely" understand your situation, you would not vote for drumph, because, equipped with your capability to genuinely understand something, you could probably also identify a reckless liar/person who may be clinically mentally ill, and so would not vote for them, given the potential adverse consequences and despite misgivings about alternatives of demonstrated capacity.

Feels like, based on the weightiest facts of that outcome, what is more important to understand is the peculiarities of that process, whether or not anything is, or even should be, done about it.

1) Okay so because 2% more people voted for HC the other 63 MILLION people shouldn't be understood?
2) Both parties knew exactly how that peculiar selection process worked. One did a way better job at playing the game than the other, who had the advantage of decades of experience.
3) Trump and his voters would get a biblical amount of shit for making the same arguments about the electrical college if the situation were reversed. Sour grapes argument, regardless of validity.
4) I do feel I genuinely understand their situations and didn't vote for Trump, so there you go. But HC offended those people repeatedly and Trump lavished them with (probably empty) promises of a return to prosperity. They chose to vote for the guy that might be a lot of bad things but seems to "have their back" when nobody else appears to vs. the woman who called them a basket of deplorables and basically ran her entire campaign on that fact that he was unfit to be President rather than trying to highlight her own fitness.

I think this is wrong. I, like a lot of left leaning people spend a lot of time reading and consuming lots or Right focused media. The average Trump supporter is actively proud that they don't consume any center or left leaning media. All it would take on these people's part, is to spend 10 minutes reading the details of the Trump University scam or his constant, consistent screwing of unions and contractors over the last 40 years to realize he doesn't give a flying fuck about the average person. I'd be happy to start to see some come to Jesus moments where these people realize the error of their ways, but as of now I see them as culpable, conscious actors in bringing fascism to our country. Most seem thrilled Trump is dividing us.

In related news, it doesn't take much time to research what kind of person Bannon is. what he thinks about immigration and the purity of our intellectual class.

related, this IS THE MOST TERRIFYING SHIT IVE SEEN

Bannon, Trump, etc. weren't hiding who they were. They embraced it. The GOP voters should not have created a cult around an unethical, barely literate megalomaniac.

but maybe I'm wrong, please help me understand why these Trump voters still insist Obama is a Muslim and yet believe Trump, a man who has exhibited literally no knowledge of the scriptures, is a good Christian, god fearing man. Trump voters will be reviled as some of histories greatest fools.

One thing these protests show is that millenials are awesome and can save America if they start voting in midterm elections and state legislative races. (I know, not all the protesters are millenials but I think they're really coming through here.)

Don't know whether to be relieved he sounds like just another incoherent sadsack or concerned that someone marinating in such juvenile apocalyptic fantasies now has a seat reserved for him at the NSC table

He keeps referencing "the" church in that admittedly brief snippet. WHICH church is he talking about?

Trump/Democrats nowhere close on infrastructure plan because the Democrats want to build stuff and Trump wants to have some tax credits and loopholes for private companies who may build stuff then control the profits.

Told ya. Pubs are so predictable. Not pay for it, give public assets to cronies and turn more of the country into a rental deal? They must be having a circle jerk.

I dropped the missus off at Dulles a few hours ago with her team and they are working the incoming into flights tonite. There are a few listservs/apps of lawyers that are sharing knowledge about doing intake and filings. Sounds like there are/were 8 folks detained as of about 5 pm. Apparently a big and loud protest in baggage claim also.

I'm a really lucky guy. (She's also lucky because I'm doing all the wedding planning and enjoying alot of it).

I'm generally not a political person, let alone an activist, but I wrote an email to Senator Toomey's office asking him to come out in opposition of the ban. Here's the link for anyone else who wishes to do so:

https://www.toomey.senate.gov/?p=contact

I really don't see how anyone who claims to be an American can do anything BUT oppose it. And as I wrote in my email, silence is tantamount to support.

[Reveal] Spoiler: My email, if you're interested
Senator Tooomey

I am saddened and disheartened to find you still silent on the issue of President Trump's executive order banning entry to the US for those from majority-Muslim countries, particularly Syrian refugees. Such a ban does not reflect the ideals we as Americans profess to uphold. We claim to be strong in the face of adversity and courageous towards a threat of danger. The ban is a clear action showing the opposite. It is an act based on fear of the other and fear of making the hard choices we know to be right. If you claim to represent me, an OIF II Veteran who proudly served when called upon to do so, you will speak out in dissent of this ban. Your silence on the issue is tantamount to your support, and your support will show you to be on the wrong side of history as those who signed The Chinese Exclusion Act or opposed the Jewish refugees fleeing Germany. Please, do the right thing, not the easy or expedient thing.
