Had fantastic cheesesteak and pepperoni stromboli at the self-described birthplace of stromboli -- Romano's in Essington. Three big halves of each for $24 total.

I wasn't sure whether to put this in the pizza, Philly restaurants, or suburbs threats, but hey I would bet their pizza is good

Online pics of the stromboli look really good .. the round pizza looks unremarkable, it appears they also make a Pica's style square pan pie with sauce on top.

Looks like a good stop pre or post PHL.

I also think real estate values in Essington will soar when Uber cars are driverless. Cheap and easy to get into the city.

Very solid place, I used to make sex with a girl that worked there in the late 90s when I was working at the lagoon

Joe's Pizza near Rittenhouse (on 16th) gets some internet love, so we stopped in.

Really nice service for a slice joint, but the pizza is very conventional in a Sysco kinda way. In other words, I gladly ate 3 slices of non-memorable pie.

Later I learned they make a tomato pie from scratch, but you gotta order 2 hours ahead.

Broke my heart later when I realized we were so close to Rione's.

I thought we already had a mention of Sarcone's Deli closing, but I can't find it. Anyway, the reason I'm sticking it here is that Angelo's Pizza of Haddonfield, one of the very best pizza places in Jersey, is moving into the space. Youse Philly guys are lucky.

The NYT says that the best New York pizza may be in Jersey City.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/12/dining/razza-pizza-review-jersey-city.html

Razza has been on my radar for 5 years and I finally got there.

It is pretty spectacular - as good as Neapolitan gets - with no wet spots.

Make take a while before they expand to PA, but the next great pizza chain could be Providence Coal Fired Pizza.

The sauce tastes like the vibrant stuff at Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza, but the crust and construction is some hybrid of Neapolitan and New Haven. And the owners are showing a lot of restauranteur chops, much like Anthony's.

Is there something about the artisans who make artisan pizza that they can't make a round pie? Does that mean my home pizza making attempts are dough stretching failures, but in fact artisan?

a round pie means that everything is uniform. a mishsapen pie means there's thick spots and thin spots and everything cooks differently

New Haven pies are ovals, so I assume this one was deliberate

But in general, perfect symmetry makes me suspicious. Seems machined instead of hand made

was giving them away for free last night. he does do there stuff occasionally.

he mostly is just selling out of win-win coffee bar now though. something like wednesday-saturday.

that was like the fourth time i have had his pie. pieces were bite size and dough was a little too chewy this time around. still recommend going to win win and ordering if you can.

If you're anywhere in between Baltimore, Annapolis, or DC, Ledo's is pretty much it...

Even if you get run over by a clown car and pissed on by a busload of school children, it's still your responsibility to interpret the meaning of the event and choose a response

I've never had Ledo - I guess I should try it.

Ballamer does have some great pizza:

Paulie Gee's

I like Ledo's as better than any national chain that you can get around here in DC, but I wouldn't call it great pizza or anything.

I didn't realize Paulie Gee's had expanded. Are they franchises or does he own all of them? I remember visiting the Greenpoint location when it first opened and he was walking around the dining room chatting up customers. Now that's pretty decent pizza. I didn't visit nearly enough because if I ever went for pizza in Brooklyn, I was going to Motorino (or Di Fara if I was making a trip out of it), but I should've diversified more.
