The more I think about it, it is kind of stupid, but it's not unreasonable. We have a single thread for DC and Avengers/Marvel that include movie discussion. The biggest reason that this is an issue is because of mobile showing spoiler tags. I stay out of those threads until I see the movie and it's not an issue, but it will be good to discuss the flick unencumbered (because hitting the spoiler tag is soooooooooo hard).

Damn it Bucky, I want to click it because I'm 97% it is something snarky and/or not funny, but I don't want to take the chance!

i have no horse in this race as i won't see the new star wars until the hype fades a bit, but there's no prob with a separate thread for the movie. it's a pop. culture phenomenon

You gotta understand, the internet is miserable with this shit at this point. Everyone is crazy about spoilers, and Ep VII is pretty much the apex of that.

For example, on the Star Wars subreddit, their mods have created an automatic comment that posts this insanely-long "IF YOU COME HERE AND POST A SPOILER WE WILL HUNT YOU DOWN AND MURDER YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN" response to every single thread in the subreddit. The thing is like two screens long. The first time I saw it this week, it was in response to some really sweet post from a mother talking about what Star Wars means to her young child--it didn't even mention Ep VII. That's insane.

This isn't the same thing as scrolling through Facebook/Twitter and some random clown decides to reveal the key plot twist of something that just came out. Or in 1980 when jackasses would drive past lines of people outside movie theaters showing ESB and shout "Vader is Luke's father." Those people are assholes who get off on ruining things for people. This is different. If you feel that strongly about not getting spoiled, IMO you should be the person who has to avoid things, not the people who have already enjoyed it once it has been released tot he general public. Just don't click on something that you know is about Star Wars for a few days.

Because you're the one who just said I was being ridiculous simply because I think it's stupid to have 99% of us be the ones to alter our behavior for the 1%.

I'm not sure I understand your question. That you should have to avoid a thread on a message board for two weeks? Sure, why not? I didn't click on the final season of Breaking Bad thread during the entire season because I wasn't watching it live (long story). I didn't want to be spoiled, so I stayed away. It really isn't that difficult.

oh my forget it. if you don't see you're the only one that doesn't want spoilers in here for a couple weeks, fine. It's not your specific timeline so yo're upset.

I can see it Friday but only in 3D. I've never seen a movie in 3D before. Should I wait?

3d is usually just a novelty with the exception of one or two films that used it well

but i see no reason not to see it 3D

unless you have a vision problem where you really can't watch it that way (i know a family that has that)

Same here with the 3D. But I wanted to see it on IMAX so I'm stuck.

I've managed to never see a 3D movie. I doubt it would be too distracting--I've just never seen a reason to pay the extra money.

I'd opt for anything that lets you see the film on opening weekend. Once more information leaks out about the storyline, it'll be a different experience.

I feel like 3D is fine, but seat selection is more imperative.

I too had the IMAX conundrum. I could have sworn this was filmed in 3D, but it's post processed god dammit.

Yea, another reason to wait to see if they did a good job w/ that or not.

I plan on eventually getting down to the Franklin Institute to see this in a "real" IMAX experience.
