Halladay VI: Smug-Off For the Ages Sponsored by lightsout54

FWIW, Riccardi's comments leave zero doubt in my mind that Halladay will be traded this week. There is absolutely no reason to make those kinds of statements if you're really comfortable not making the deal and are prepared to walk away. Transparent posturing.

The discrepancy in the reported offer by the Phils (Taylor, Happ, Carrasco, Donald) and whatever actually was offered is almost certainly Toronto leaking a worse deal than was offered so they can be "wowed" and "bowled over" when they ultimately take a Phillies deal, which is probably something closer to Phillies real counterproposal than what Toronto leaked.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

I'm actually going to Toronto tomorrow. I expect Doc to be joining me on my return flight for his physical.

Could anyone imagine what it'd be like if there was a trade deadline with rampant speculation back in the day, before 24 hr networks, email, texting, tweeting...

Keith Law would be writing letters about Cy Youngs arm slot and he will have won 10 games by the time it reached its destination.

or statements like

"Yanks thinking of moving Gherig"

weeks later

" White Sox interested in Gherig...have some concerns over his mortality"

If Boston decides to get involved and offers up Buchholz+ (and Toronto accepts).... what will your reaction be?

Indifference at this point. Buchholz is a stud of studs. If Toronto feels they are getting a better deal they should trade him wherever. Buchholz is better than any prospect in our system. It depends on the rest of the deal obviously.

Sorry to intrude on your rampant domination of all colloquy here. I just would like to point out that Bucholz turns 25 in a couple weeks. At what point is he no longer a prospect, and how can you say he's better than any prospect we have in our system when he is at such a matured age?

Wow, someone hit the thesaurus tonight. He's been up and down from the big club, but has thrown a no-hitter in the majors, and is still young enough to be considered a prospect.

There isn't a single minor league player that the Phillies would not trade for Buchholz. He turns 25 in August, and the only reason he's not pitching in the MLB is because the Red Sox have a filled rotation and wish to slow the arbitration clock.

No thesaurus, my friend. I didn't doubt his success anywhere. I don't believe he can be compared at age 25 to much younger prospects like Drabek.

Buchholz was a JuCo pick so he was 22 when he hit AA, but....

86 IP, 1.77 ERA, 116 SO, 0.88 WHIP

His season there completely blows away anything Drabek has done at this point. [/url]

Stark on NBC10....didn't offer anything new but says he still thinks a deal gets done. Eskin disagrees...

Arbitration clock or no, Boston is trying to hold on to a playoff spot. How can they run Brad Penny out there every fifth day (or worse, Matsuzaka) with someone in their system doing what Bucholz is doing at AAA?
