People can say thats too much and they don't want to do it and they want to wait out JP and hope he caves. But we're not dealing with a smart, rational guy.

If the "more" is Donald, I think that's a fantastic deal for the Jays.

I think you all have worn me down to the point where I'd be okay--not thrilled, but okay--with that deal. We'd still have Brown, Carrasco, Knapp, and Marson as the gems of the system, with a bunch of other high-ceiling guys further down.

Oh, and we'd have one of the two or three best pitchers in the game.

The definition of a good compromise is one where neither side is happy.

One thing we probably shouldn't overlook about the Phils' counter-offer: if they put in Happ but not Drabek, it suggests that Happ alone couldn't possibly be the "untouchable" deal-breaker. Which is encouraging.

Then why did you advocate last night jumping on the Jays first offer?

Good point. If JPR were rational, I'd think Drabek, Happ, Taylor, Donald gets it done.

Any deal with Happ instead of Drabek is a winner for me since that allows me to make the deal without giving up my best pitching prospect and hitting prospect. That's always been the kicker for me.

The Phillies took both Drabek, their top pitching prospect, and Brown, their top position-player prospect, out of the deal. Instead, they submitted an offer of Happ and their three most advanced prospects -- outfielder Michael Taylor, pitcher Carlos Carrasco and shortstop Jason Donald.

I like Sunday trades. Looking forward to the announcement of a press conference after the game.

Haha I'm doing my best, this is madness! I only posted it b/c Stark posted it on his Twitter 6 min ago. Wasn't sure if was previously discussed. But at least that offer says that Happ isn't going to block this thing

It appears we're dealing with a desperate guy. Not desperate to make the deal, but desperate to make himself look good. Before I mentioned something like he wants to rape the other org and brag about it afterwards. I suspect he won't deal Halliday unless he's on the winning side of a lopsided deal. If he gets it, he gets to brag about reaping a motherload. If he doesn't and Halliday stays, he gets to brag that he didn't "give away" the face of the franchise. Irrationality and desperation is overruling objectivity and logic.

kind of shows you how out of touch Perrotto is

The Phillies had scout Charlie Kerfeld watch Halladay’s start against the Rays on Friday night at the Rogers Centre, and former GM Pat Gillick scouted his previous outing. The Phillies could likely land Halladay with a package built around three Triple-A players—right-hander Carlos Carrasco, shortstop Jason Donald, and outfielder Michael Taylor—along with two second-tier prospects. However, there has been speculation that the Phillies are backing off trading for Holliday since they have taken control of the National League East race by opening up a 6½-game lead on the Braves and Marlins.

And, surprise surprise, Heyman too:

Heyman on Friday:
The Jays are said to be aiming for a package that includes one of two top young pitchers, Kyle Drabek or J.A. Happ, plus one of two top outfielders, either Michael Taylor or Dominic Brown, plus a couple other highly regarded prospects. Shortstop Jason Donald and pitcher Carlos Carrasco are among other young prospects who are believed to have been discussed.

Yes.

I think there are two possible results;

1. It ends up being Happ, Drabek, Brown, and either Donald or D'Arnaud and we get back another player like Frasor
2. Ricciardi doesnt trade him.

Rube's best bet is to try and get a quality reliever or Scutaro in the deal as well, which makes it easier to give up those prospects.

I thought everyone universally agreed that Drabek/Brown/Happ was just Ricciardi asking for the moon in his first offer
