JA Happ is untouchable.

Really one for the books

I read this 10 minutes ago and am still shaking my head about it because it's the truth. Sad. A chance for history and they won't give up JA Happ.

This would case me to forever despise Happ

I know he's had a good year so far...but come on. Kendrick had a nice stretch too.

I'm not one of those guys who thinks this is a left handed version of Kendrick, but Happ isn't going to be anything ridiculously special. Gotta keep the #4 pitcher who'll have a career 4.50 ERA!!!

I'm doing Happ/Drabek/Brown for Halladay and I'll see you at the parade.

We're gathering momentum! How do we get the word to Rube?

At the beginning of the year, every single person on this board would have JUMPED to make the Drabek, Happ, Brown for Halladay deal. JUMPED.

Yes, they have all made huge leaps forward....just like Marson, Donald, and Carrasco all made huge leaps backwards. Same thing could happen next year. Or May, Gose, Collier, d'Arnaud, Shreve could make huge jumps forward.

This is like going to AC with $1,000, turning into $100,000 in a few hours and deciding whether to buy a Mercedes or stay at the table for the rest of the night.

The Phillies aren't overvaluing Happ, and there's no way he holds up this trade. They're playing him up so they can use him as a piece to hold onto one of the other blue chip prospects. They know his limitations, but he's attractive to Toronto right now, since he's already in the majors and has shown some success, which come help them save some face. I think he goes with one of the other key players, be it Brown, Drabek, or Taylor, but just one of them, plus some B level prospects. If that's the case, I'm fine with it. The fact that Knapp's name isn't coming up is a plus as well.

No. No. No.

I'm not doing it on principle. I might swap Carrasco for Happ (Even if I like Carrasco more). Come on people, we're in the driver seat. Not him. We HAVE a MUCH better BATNA than Toronto. Like much much better.

Don't lose your nerve now. As Costanza said, we're negotiating, ne go ti a ting.

If Rube pulls that off I'll never criticize him again - hell I might even buy his throwback jersey.

Well, IMO, it's stupid posturing. You know what the Jays want. You should be OK with it. Do it.

If you really want Halladay, is it worth the risk of blowing the deal or someone else getting it just to keep one more prospect?

Maybe Rube & Co. are just a whole lot smarter than I am and/or have more information. But part of the art of the deal is closing it.

The way i'm looking at it is they've already achieved what you said. The Phillies have already taken some prospects off the table by adding Happ. It's not a 5 for 1 deal, so while you give up arguably your 2 top prospects and a "sell high" ML pitcher, the overall strength of the farm is still pretty solid. You keep your top catching and shortstop prospects and your 1a OF and pitching prospects. These other pieces can be used to address the bullpen and the RH bat off the bench.

Happ would get crushed facing the Rays/Sawks/Yankees all year.

And we could say the EXACT same thing about Toronto's position. Just sub in toronto or ricciardi whenever you type Philly or Amaro and it reads the same. Why are they being pigs, how dare they ask for our two best prospects (And you know I'm fine dealing prospects.)

Look, you're not our best spokesperson, cus you haven't yet found a trade offer you wouldn't do. Nope, I'm negotiating. If I lose, we've still got a great chance of winning the World Series (not as good as with Halladay). We'll be fine without him. Toronto needs this more.

They must be more plugged in than most of the writers. Alot of the other "offers" are including names on teams' 25 man rosters, and I'm not buying it that the Angels, Yankees, Dodgers, etc. are willing to make those kind of moves. The reason the Phillies are the front runners is the fact that they have plenty of ammo without needing to significantly impact their roster.
