He could serve as a nice power arm capable of going more than 1 inning. He has major issues, and while he's still young, his development has stalled. He's got a nice fastball and supposedly a good changeup, but his curveball still appears to be an issue. If he ramps it up in relief I bet he could comfortably hit 93-95 for an inning. We could use an arm like that, on the cheap, for 6 years. Would be nice if he was still a #2 starter, but I think that ship has sailed, along with his elite prospect status. He could be of use to the ML team right now.
what's he throwing right now velocity wise?

I read this 10 minutes ago and am still shaking my head about it because it's the truth. Sad. A chance for history and they won't give up JA Happ.

Another convert! I know that the overwhelming reaction when it leaked out was: "It's too much." But I just don't see it. Happ's ceiling is middle of the rotation. Drabek may be great, but he may suck. Brown looks like something special, I'll grant you. But he's still in A ball. So much can happen to a kid that young who's still in the low minors.
We get the best pitcher in baseball, who also makes our pitifully overtaxed bullpen better. And, he either re-signs with us (likely for the rest of his productive career) or we get two draft choices who could end up being as good as either Drabek or Brown or both.
I just don't see how that's too much, when you factor in what this would mean in so many ways for this franchise.

as a starter im sure hes sitting 91-92
thought it was higher than that
FTN wrote:I dont know. There's a difference between being able to hit a speed a handful of times in a game and throwing 90% of your fastballs at that speed. I think hes anywhere from 91-93 consistently, but he could add 2-3 mph in one inning stints.
