Blue Jays Reveal Halladay Intentions

RHP Roy Halladay's desire to test the free agent market after the 2010 season is the primary reason that the Blue Jays are trying to trade their staff ace, GM J.P. Ricciardi said Thursday.

"That's the whole reason we're going down this avenue," Ricciardi said, hours after revealing Halladay's intentions in a pregame chat with a Toronto radio station.

Baseball's non-waiver trade deadline is July 31. Ricciardi said July 6 he would field offers for Halladay, who has a full no-trade clause. The Jays have set a loose deadline of July 28 to make a deal.

The Mets bowed out of the Halladay talks once Fernando Martinez's name came up.

I'd hate to lose him but if they can use him in place of Drabek, it's probably a good move. I'd say give them Brown, Happ, and then some lesser prospect(s)

where is Taylor or Donald going to play for this team anyway?

It seems like you just want to get rid of the guy. Why?

I doubt they will be moving Werth or Victorino anytime soon to make room for Taylor and Rollins ain't going anywhere soon. This trade is such a no-brainer, unless the Phillies like having prospects and young players around just to have them and gloat about them.

If this fails I'll blame every thing on Montgomery, and I have a sneaky suspicion it'll really be about the money although they don't want to admit it with all their sellouts.

The truly ballsy move would be to move Ibanez after the season. The contract they signed him to now looks great and he is almost certain to regress next season and Taylor moves into LF.

I know it will never happen. I am not even sure I would want it to happen.

Indians GM Mark Shapiro wonders if teams are holding onto their prospects too tightly: "It's almost to the point where there's an over-evaluation of these guys. There's almost an over-correction."

It sounds like he's league ready by next year, and they're not moving Victorino or Werth

Brown in 2011 makes more sense

My only problem with the Brown over Taylor debate is a lot of guys have flamed out between A-ball and the Majors. I would rather take my chances on the guys who has proven himself at the higher level.

Of course Ibanez will regress, but I'd bet any sum you want he'll still be a really good and valuable player.

The sellers are always whining. Tell him to look at our Schilling, Rolen and Abreu/Lidle deals and shut up.
