He did a good job with the break down...

So here are some packages I'll throw out there. You tell me which ones wouldn't make sense for the Phillies:

Dominic Brown, J.A. Happ, Kyle Kendrick, John Mayberry Jr.
Drabek, Jason Donald or Lou Marson, Andrew Carpenter, Player TBA
Drabek, J.A. Happ, John Mayberry Jr., Player TBA
Drabek, Michael Taylor, J.A. Happ, Player TBA
Dominic Brown, Carlos Carrasco, Lou Marson, Kyle Kendrick

I like package number 5.
I would rather see you lose than win myself

i think 5 would be the closest one to get it done.

they have 'strength' in OF's. not so much with SP. so i'd rather trade the best OF prospect than the best SP prospect.

All I know is that #4 (Happ plus two of the top three in the system plus another guy) is way too much.

One interesting question is whether Happ or Carrasco has more value to potential trade partners.

Sorry, I deleted my post.

My suggestion was:

Brown
Marson
Happ or Carrasco

I think it would be a little short. They might want both Happ and Carrasco if they can't have Drabek.

Murphy makes the point (and I think a good one) that including Happ is problematic. For as much as you upgrade the top of the rotation, it leaves a hole in the bottom (at least this year). So I'd think Brown, Marson, Carrasco and another pitcher, perhaps Carpenter. As long as it's not Drabek or Knapp, I'd be OK with it.

What about Werth or Victorino, then call up Taylor (once he gets his outfield work :| ). I don't want to trade either of them, but if that can be the "major league ready talent" then so be it. Then trade any 3 or 4 minor leaguers except Drabek & Brown. I guess they don't really need OF's though?

As with Happ, the trading deadline goal for a contender is to add to the major league roster without subtracting anything significant. Vic & Wertz are significant and known quantities. I like Taylor, but he's an unknown qunatity right now.

I just have this feeling that winter will be the time to trade Werth or Victorino and get the best return, then slot in Taylor--if he's not dealt this summer--to replace whichever of them is gone.

Dealing Werth right now would also strip the lineup of its only solid RH bat. Can't do that.

4 is the most painful one for us, but I would still do it.

I can't believe anyone would consider trading Werth, but then again I'm the guy with

The amazing thing, to me, is that we've gotten to the point where;

a.) we have the prospects to trade for a guy like Halladay
b.) it wont completely gut our system

say what you want about last year's run, but the development of the farm and Gillick not emptying it before he left might go down as his most valuable contribution to the franchise

c.) Elite pitcher with NTC who wants to win would consider us

If I had to rank those scenarios I would say:

5
1
2
3
4

They would have to be insane to do #4. I am not a fan of 2 or 3 either but to get Halladay I might do it. I like Taylor more than Brown if only because he is closer to ML ready so any scenario in which they keep Taylor and Drabek sounds good to me.

Say what? You're replacing Happ with Halladay. I like JA, but I think I could live with that.
