We’re learning it’s neither a marathon nor a sprint. It’s the Battaan death march.

They're saying forearm for Rhys not wrist. I guess that's better. Unless it's one of those ligaments in the forearm attached to the wrist.

I thought it might have been a hyperextension at the time. I'm not a doctor.

No discussions yet of moving Bohm to 1B

That was an awful and unnecessary throw by JT that got him injured btw.

Any word on the extent of Rhys' injury? UCL doesn't say much beyond the body part. Is it torn or strained or what?

Just wondering if we'll see him again before next year.

Matt Gelb @MattGelb

Girardi said the Phillies aren't ready to say Hoskins is done for the season. He could return, at earliest, Sept. 23 with four games remaining. Injury is to non-throwing arm.

Thanks. That's better than I expected, but I still think he's done for the year. Devastating loss. We don't have anyone who could possibly replace his bat, even for a short period if the player happened to get hot. All we have in AAA is single/double hitters with questionable OB skills. Most of the best of those are already on the team.

You can move Bohm to 1B, but I don't see how that helps, especially long-term. Bohm needs reps at 3B if he's going to stay there and anyone who might replace him at 3B could probably handle 1B. Maybe the D would be a little better with Kingery at 2B, Segura at 3B, and Bohm at 1B, but it wouldn't help Bohm's development I think that's more important than the bump in defense.

There are probably politics here but I’d play JT at first when possible. Ride the Knapp hot streak while there’s few other options and you a better sense of whether JT can play first long term. It’s probably also less strenuous on his hip. You need to get as much information as possible about Bohm and 3rd.

@JonHeyman:

JT Realmuto got 2 pieces of great news yesterday. First, his hip injury was deemed not to be too serious and he’s day to day. Second, Steve Cohen made a deal to buy the Mets. Word is he’ll spend to win; it’s easy to envision a winter battle for Realmuto betw the Phillies and Mets

This does seem inevitable.

I'd much rather be the team sitting on 5 more years of Sixto then the teams "battling" to sign a 30yo catcher to an albatross contract.
