fwiw (i.e. not much) fangraphs has changed the playing time and maybe some other assumptions of their depth charts team war projections in ways that make the phils 2020 chances look less dire. they now have the phils at 36 war, or about 84 wins, and the braves, nats, and mets 'just' 4, 5, and 7 games ahead. the gaps were a game or two larger a week ago.

Is there a place online you can see how many option years a player has left? I think I read somewhere Williams has one, but I was hoping there’s a site somewhere? Anyone know?

Thanks

From today's Lauber article in the inquirer

“I think he can stay at third base if he works really hard at it,” the second evaluator said. “His bat won’t play regularly at first base for me. He’s kind of a Wilmer Flores type.”

From what I'm hearing the Phillies are not seriously in on any Kris Bryant trade. Definitely not in on Arenado(if he even gets dealt). I'm not sure where Buster Olney keeps getting the Kris Bryant stuff from, but that's not happening with the Phillies.

They are pretty much done. Middleton decided to cut off the funds and this is your baseball team.

So yeah, this will probably be my last post here for quite a while. They don't care about building a winner, so I'm gonna go back to not watching them again. Didn't watch a single game between 2012-2016 and will not again until ownership does what it takes to win. So for those who don't like my posting, Merry Christmas, this is your present!

(Just kidding I know everyone here absolutely adores me :P )

I hope everyone has a great Christmas, and the owner gets a little Christmas spirit and decides to put out a little more to build a championship club. Until then, I'll see ya when I see ya.

I appreciate your posts, Shadow, and I'd venture a guess that those who don't represent a small, but vocal, minority around here.

I can certainly understand your not wanting to watch the Phils. Unless we get several very unexpected performances, the team is in a weird spot: At the ceiling for payroll but not really a contender. Years of poor drafting and development have taken their toll and it's going to take years to really turn it around.

I wish you the best and hope you'll be back soon.

I'm pretty sure they want to win, they just want to spend as much as practically every other team that wins, and they probably decided that Klentak deserves one more offseason/season to pull a rabbit out of his hat. Not looking promising so far, but we'll see.
Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

I’d like to reinforce this post. Shadow’s post probably resonates with a fair amount of BSG posters. The Giles and then Amaro years put the organization behind the eight ball. The only chance to recover was to spend money which, through many means including their deal with Comcast, readily available. That Middleton has shown himself to not be willing to go over the cap for a season is really a betrayal of the fans as well as the players in the organization. As someone once said, “Either go big or go home.” We’ll see where Middleton/Bucks are soon enough. If they choke on this, I believe that they’ll lose a generation of fans.

Shadow sure as hell resonates with me. Big disappointment this off season. I've been watching this team since the 1950 Whiz Kids ... have seen the very very bad, and the very very good. My viewing and my interest levels have come and gone, based on time and tide, and I too have turned them off for a full season or more (remember the 70's?). But after we signed Harper, and after Wheeler, I really thought we were heading back toward the real success we had from 2007-2011. Don't think so. The Nats, Braves, Mets have all improved more than us, IMO. Sure, we can count on Bohm and Howard and other "prospects" -- or we can actually compete. So, predicting maybe 3rd, probably 4th. Middleton has shown his colors.
