I'd be on board with this if it comes in tandem with signing Rendon to play 3B. I'm very leery of the dollars/years/risk of signing one of the top arms on the FA market and think this would be a more prudent way to add an impact starter. Buy bats and develop/trade for pitching.
Two reasons it might not happen: Doesn't seem like (barring a lights-out spring that forces the issue) that Bohm's breaking camp with the team, not to mention that little things like Hoskins being the only roster player at the Girardi presser and then being made available to the press while there make me think that they don't have any intention of moving Hoskins and still see him as one of the faces of the franchise.
As to the Middleton issue, overruling your front office is never a great look, but what were the last three decisions he reportedly stepped in on?
*Harper over Machado
*Firing Mallee
*Firing Gabe to hire Girardi
All three were the right decisions, and if the baseball people were pitching the opposite, it's kind of more damning of them than of Middleton for stepping in.

(the successful salary dump is the other bold part... because it's near to impossible)
Phil? Phil Connors?
