Discuss Poker Here Thread(OT)

If the roles were reversed, I would've called me with A2. Heck, I called you with A6 if you remember(you had j8).

That tourney was pretty good, it was interesting to see how many times the 'worst' hand won. There's so much luck involved in even a 1 table tourney that it seems that the way those tourneys break out that one may as well gamble early on and build a stack so that one can go in with 'other people's' money when the blinds start to escalate.
That was my mentality this tourney, anyway. If you look at the results, they bear out. Duane(sp.?) lost with KK to 88 or something but had no chips to deal with the blow, whereas I lost 88 to 77 and still had 45K behind me when that happened.

I disagree, altho I used to think the same thing until earlier this year (it seems logical). However, chips are worth "less" at the beginning stages since the blinds are hardly affecting play. Stealing (which you do especially well) becomes much easier and effective and most importantly worthwhile when people start to feel the pinch of the blinds enough to feel they need to tighten and pick a premium starting hand (but not so harsh that theyre too short stacked.)

1) everyone is usually in a gamble mindset at that point since the chips aren't worth much, and it's usually profitable to play a style opposite your competition
2) especially with our structure, gambling early isn't worth it because the structure "normalizes" the stacks after the rebuy period. percentage-wise, the differences in stack sizes after the rebuy period are typically very small.
3) in the TOC structure gambling early does make more sense because people are tighter than usual. i thought you played very well early on, given that fact.

I understand that, but I still tend to think that in the rebuy situation that it pays to gamble to win a big pot early, as long as you are willing to rebuy once. Any chip advantage is a good thing, and basically freerolling for someone's stack can end up putting you in a good spot to get in the top 2.

Gold knows what his is doing kinda, but his style is the worst..... It worked for a little, at the right time obviously, he's like a pitcher that goes around the league once and dominates.....

Cue banjo music or something.

These games have been operating more or less in the open, claiming that no gambling was going on. Arkansas is in general pretty hostile to legal gambling--we've got no lottery, but there is a horse track and a dog track with slot machines and video poker.

Are these kind of poker rooms common in other places that otherwise do not allow gambling?
