Phillies 2019 Discussion III: The Dog Days of Bummer

Most cases I’d say you pitch to Pillar there, but with how the giants were having a pen game pitching wise and Smith was their 7th reliefer of the game, I’m forcing Bochy’s hand there.

With how this season is going,Smith would have gotten a hit or Posey or Panda would have pinched hit and hit a homer

Yeah you’re right, missed the IBB in the play by play, as I slept through the last few innings.

Assuming Nola is the WC game starter, who do we have lined up for games 1-3 of the NLDS?

Kapler DID cause Pivetta to throw the wrong pitch by having him pitch to Pillar at all

That part is on Klentak for not building enough depth.

Screw Dick Ruthven.

First they traded him for a used-up Jim Kaat.
Then they gave up Gene Garber to get him back.
Then they get smart and trade him for Guillermo "Willie" Hernandez.
Then the get stupid again and trade Willie for GlennBo and John Wockenfuss. Willie wins the AL Cy Young that season.
Drunk and stupid is no way to be remembered but it is an easy way to forget.

And this is in a game where the starter with a balky elbow could only go 3 innings and gives up 5 runs. But no, that's not the problem. Nor is it the injury depleted bullpen. No, it's the ORDER the scrap heap relievers were used that is the problem. Kapler is behind everything!

Why even pitch to Pillar in that spot?

That's 100% on Kapler.

So you don't turn the lineup over. They still had to get 3 outs in the 9th inning. They'd be facing the 7-8-9 spots in the 9th if they can get Kevin Pillar out. And Kevin Pillar sucks.

AROD hit the nail on the head............"careless managing, careless pitching."

pretty sure he didn't say that

He did, actually.

I remember because I was surprised when he said that.

Frees Knapp up to provide some right handed pinch hitting off the bench for the September run. The impact could be huge.
