The offense stinks, the pitching stinks, everyone is hurt, our coaches are inadequate, and we hold the second Wild Card. Good times in Philly

It's astonishing that we're a playoff team given how we've played recently. And given pre-season expectations, it's astonishing we're only 3 games over .500. It's also astonishing how hot the Braves have gotten. It's really Braves+Dodgers, and then everyone else being up for one of the 2 wild card slots, except the Marlins.

I'm trying to decide if this is due to us/the National League being awful, or if it's really just the league-wide competitiveness that MLB has always wanted.

Stupid second wild card

Hope to never see Davis or Garcia again, which means two more pitchers are about to get injured and both will be back by next week

At least Segura is back in the lineup (and Realmuto as expected)

Is it? I thought it's been clear for quite some time they have been bringing up and have to bring up a bevy of young, talented players - unlike, say, us.

Steaks says the Phils are interested in Drew Smyly, who was released by the Rangers then opted out of his AAA deal with the Brewers. Has been absolute shit since returning from TJ surgery, so he'll fit in well

He didn't pitch in the majors since 2016 before this season? Doesn't look very good. That's a long TJ recovery but maybe he needs more time.

Rather have Garcia than Irvin although Garcia may need more seasoning

Steaks also reported the Phils have talked to Texas about Minor, SF about Bumgarner and Detroit about Boyd, and have "investigated the possibility" of Greinke

Yeah, I mean thet had a good young team last year that won 90 games, and one had to figure with a modicum of luck they'd be significantly better.

OTOH from June 1 to July 15 they played .736 ball and the last century shows us no one does that, so there is some hope for a return to normalcy and a competitive division.

We already have one unlikable pitcher in Arrieta, I'm not sure I can stomach another one in Bumgarner.
