We already have one unlikable pitcher in Arrieta, I'm not sure I can stomach another one in Bumgarner.

Grab Greinke and we'll have the all-unlikable staff

Can't hurt. But the guy never has recovered from TJ surgery.

Whose spot does he even take in rotation? I guess Vince since they previously said he was being re-cast as a reliever. But NP hasn't shown that he's back from his horrific month, and even Eflin has been shaky.

Sadly doesn't really matter as this will likely be a revolving door all season

#Phillies have shown interest in Marcus Stroman, who is expected to pitch before a large gathering of scouts in Detroit this evening. @MLB @MLBNetwork

Pretty sure the scouts were there for the next Phils series anyway

52 ks in 51 innings isn't bad. I haven't done the math, but I'm guessing 19 hrs is.

What a joke. With all the pitchers who were available in the offseason on one year deals, and the few that have been signed or traded for during the season, we end up with the guy with an ERA over 8. And he's plugged right into the rotation, of course, just so he can show everyone how much he sucks.

With all the options that were available over the last 9 months, this should piss people off. He's clearly not back from the injury, if he ever will be. I don't know what they think will happen. If he pitches well, it's just dumb luck. This is like signing delmon young and thinking he will finally put it together.

How about " taking a flyer at scraping the **** off the bottom of the tires on the wall"?

This guy appears to be bad enough his signing deserves some creativity.

Dallas Keuchel has a 5.23 FIP and K-Rate 1 per inning lower than Jake Arrieta.

He's been decent in his last 2 minors stars, 0 BBs and 10 Ks in 9 IP. https://www.baseball-reference.com/regi ... &year=2019 If he had control issues and got them sorted out he might be good. And even if he is what he was last year it's better than what Pivetta has been.

edit: actually that's missing his last start from 3 days ago for some reason, http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?si ... g/2019/ALL

We couldda got Kimbrel. He's been kinda stinky so far.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

The list of pitchers who signed one-year deals this year is actually pretty terrible, there's like two guys out there that represent even a slight upgrade over the Phillies bottom of the rotation guys.

I really don't care about the signing one way or another, it's a no-cost band-aid, if it works, great, if he gets blown up, well, so was everyone else, dump him and go find someone else.
