Wonder who’s getting hurt in the next week so Nick can come back up.

Here's kind of a random question I had the other day, that I thought of thanks to that stupid new Braves mascot: How much do you suppose the Phanatic is worth to the Phillies as a brand identifier? I mean it's a tricky question, because to any other entity I guess he'd be worthless - or, if not exactly worthless, the question would be irrelevant because he is not for sale - but how much value does he add to the Phillies brand? I think he's easily the most recognizable mascot in sports, he turns up in the pop culture a pretty fair amount in non-Phillies-specifics contexts, and yet people associate him with the "Phillies" as the "Phillie Phanatic." He, in other words, probably brings the Phillies a fair amount of brand-recognition to people who would otherwise be disinclined to recognize the Phillies brand - non-sports fans, casual fans of sports without a big rooting interest in baseball, etc.
He's definitely valuable, but how valuable? I know: $600/hour, according to a recent article on how much it costs to bring the guy to your birthday party.
I dunno about Soren's statement. There's nothing Philadelphia Phillies about the Phanatic other than the cap jersey and sanitary hose. If he (or rather, the costume, I guess, though back in Dave Raymond days the inhabitant was also closely identified) were a free agent I bet they would have to make a pretty sweet deal to keep him. I wonder if the gentlemanly aura of baseball would prevent other teams from employing him, thoguh. Probably just become the Amazon Addict like everything else.

And by that I mean anyone.
