What's the risk? Really? Like getting 24m of value out of him in 6 seasons is pretty darn high. The upside of the 3 super team friendly option years and showing players that you're an organization willing to do this far outweigh the dollar risk. 24m for one season is an albatross. Over 6 it's a rounding error. I contend there's almost no risk here.

I think the 10 year deal with Albert Pujols is what killed them not signing Trout early.
