And give one to Rhys. He's got to want to dance too though. Can't make him sign it. For all we know they've tried.

Yeah I don't think they had to twist Kingerys arm to get this done

first thought on comparable was the Longoria deal - adjusted for inflation this is pretty darn close if not an even better deal for the Phillies. I see no downside to this deal - even if he is a complete bust, this kind of money is a blip on our radar over the length of the deal.

I guess I'm not using that NA spot in my one fantasy league on Kingery
(Brandy) only hinted at Halladay's personal issues during her Hall of Fame speech last July, when she said, "Roy would want everyone to know that people are not perfect. We're all imperfect and flawed in one way or another. We all struggle."

I think him busting isn't a major concern... it's more like how high is his ceiling... the biggest downside to me would be some serious injury

Really happy about this. With the luxury tax these days you kind of need to take these chances to compete long term. They aren't always going to work but it's huge if they do. This guarantees we have all his prime years at a very team friendly cost if he pans out. Downside is a relatively small sunk cost.

So the Phillies locked up a talented kid for potentially a decade and someone is worried about a precedent? This is a fantastic deal. Lock up your core now then spend big balls money in free agency and lets go

Especially if he’s playing 6 different positions a week.
Fine. You wanna act like you're two? I'll act like I'm one.

I have to imagine this sort of cost certainty is pretty valuable for a front office with as many medium to long term variables as the Phillies have. One less guy that you have to project his arb number out 4 years from now.
Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

I like smart moves by our front office as precedent.

Kind of surprised Kingery even accepted it tbh.

I guarantee Klentak factored it all in.

Gotta be hard to say no to 24 million dollars before you've ever played a game. He could suck or get hurt and he's set for life. The option years are the real genius of this deal. If he's a stud, that's such an under market value deal especially with the Monopoly money that'll be spent in FA

so it's less than one year of arietta

i'm assuming all three years are team options? if so, great move. We have control through his age 32 season.

They probably also factored in printing money again when we return to glory

He is starting to line the ducks up in a row so he knows how much the payroll will be once he signs Harper and Trout.

And really good for the Phillies here in not playing the B's 14 day wait game. That shit needs to end.
