Team mascots of this sort to me are like disco and powder blue road uniforms: a product of a particular era. To be introducing a new team mascot in 2018 is like showing up to a cocktail party in bell bottom jeans: embarrassing.

Weird color choice. It's Georgia, so I guess they needed to make him a white guy.

All references to Chief Wahoo will be gone from the Indians' uniforms and stadium next year, but fans will still be able to buy merch with the logo

using the fangraphs depths charts plus steamer projections, you can construct a 25 player team from the remaining free agents that has more projected fwar than 9 mlb teams. phillies would come out a win or two ahead of the fa team.
ss = any aaaa replacement (0.0 fwar)
c= lucroy 2.4 fwar
1b= hosner 2.8
2b= neil walker 2.6
3b= moose 2.8
lf= jd 2.7
cf=dyson/gomez 1.5 (both marked injured by fangraphs --> sum to one healthy player)
rf=cargo 1.0

sp1= darvish 3.7
sp2= arrieta 2.7
sp3= cobb 1.7 (i'm leaving out jaime garcia and his 2.2 fwar projection because everyone else does... but what exactly is the issue with him?)
sp4= anderson 1.7
sp5= jiminez 1.6 (lynn is next at 1.3)

rp1= cahill 0.6
rp2= moylan 0.4
rp3= duke 0.3
rest of bench and pen = somewhere between 0.0 and 2.0 fwar cumulatively in part-time roles.
total = 28-30 fwar depending on health/role playing time adjustments.
just above a's (27.7 fwar) and just below rangers and phils (30.2, 30.5)

Apparently he wanted it that way. Buster Olney has a lovely tribute.

I was stunned he was so young (56 I think). That means he was like 31 when he took over as GM of the Padres. Today that's not surprising but back in 1993 that's amazingly young to have been GM.

So... Jayson Werth was at the SOTU last night... as an "organic farmer." Says he was "inspired."

Gee, I wonder what kinds of organic crops he might be growing?

I do remember hinch holding the stand up to cancer placard with his name on it during the World Series. That was a nice piece by olney.

Fun fact, he was Jim McMahon’s roommate at BYU.

Verducci with a good piece on the current stalled FA market: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/free-agent ... 57339.html
(Brandy) only hinted at Halladay's personal issues during her Hall of Fame speech last July, when she said, "Roy would want everyone to know that people are not perfect. We're all imperfect and flawed in one way or another. We all struggle."

That marlin looks like it has just been violated. I am sure the team's remaining fanbase can relate.

Jeter continues to clean house:

MIAMI -- The latest person to be engulfed in the sweeping personnel changes with the Miami Marlins is the man who plays the team's mascot.

News outlets report that John DeCicco, who has appeared as Billy the Marlin at home games for more than a decade, was fired this week. The team confirmed the termination Tuesday, saying Billy the Marlin will remain the team's mascot but with a different person in the costume. Team officials didn't give a reason for the firing.

Needs a mascot who'll make league minimum.
