he overlooked the fact dickey was starting. think that was the first run they've ever scored off of him.

in regards to third base question, this winter and next season will be another key step in evaluating the roster. hernandez will likely draw interest and with kingery's emergence, it might make sense to get some value for him. with galvis approaching free agency, they might also look to see what his market is. i think the big thing next year is evaluating the outfield. it seems fairly certain aa/odubel/williams will get the lion's share of the work out there. it might be far fetched to think they'll be able to attract both, but the phils are far and away in the best situation to add both harper and machado.

the odd of out would be determined after another season is in the books. maybe one of them is a key piece in a trade to add a pitcher. they'll still have a stacked system to deal from as well.

For all of the industry fawning over the Braves farm system I think our 27 and under major league talent is better than theirs.

So, any chances of a big move today. I would guess Joseph and Galvis would be the main candidates.

Freddy has had a career year and Joseph has been solid over the last year. That being said, if Klentak/MacPhail are serious about basing the roster around guys who take pitches and get on base, I don't see how either have a future here with Crawford and Hoskins ready to go.

Thoughts?

Saw that on Facebook from a non-bsg person. I always thought this was a bsg thing. Huh.

DBacks (because of injury) and Royals are really the only teams in the hunt that need an upgrade at SS. A package of prospects and crappy/FA to be Alcides Escobar would makes a ton of sense from the Royals. Escobar plays decent defense and could hold the fort at SS for the rest of the year if JP isn't deemed ready. KC has a couple of interesting OF prospects in Low A (Khalil Lee) and Rookie ball (Seuly Matias) and lottery ticket arms.

I don't think anyone wants Tommy.

Yeah, I think his trade value is higher in the off-season. Hope we don't do anything with Freddy right now unless we get a really good offer.

Agree on Tommy.

i would rather keep freddy and trade cesar. the former is more suited than the to moving to 3b or into a (defensive) supersub role to make way for kingery and jpc, and depending on what long-term 3b solution is found. i wouldn't trust cesar to field a position other than 2b. also, if crawford falls apart again, galvis is the only real backup ss option in the org who we could trust not to be a total black hole.

i'm not sure how you quantify the 40 point difference in OBP (65 pts career) between the two in comparison to their defense, but it's a tough pill for me to swallow to deal Cesar and keep Freddy.

I'm with phorever. I really like Galvis, Ceaser's bat is better no doubt, but I like Galvis'seses versatility.

I am not on fire to send away either Galvis or Cesar. But at the same time I really don't know that there is another solution to the middle infield logjam.

As I am invested in the "let's not lose 100" push (it's 1997 all over again!), I'd prefer they stand pat for now. Or go get Stanton in a stunner, that would be fun. Not sure it's the right move, or if it is still a thing that the Marlins want out of that contract, but there's no doubt it would be fun.

If there were a Stanton deal to be had, would Williams & Cesar & one pitching prospect of the Marlins choice below AA for the Phillies taking on all of Stanton's deal get it done? If the Phillies still wanted to try to get Yellich as part of the deal, as we've heard before, I'd imagine that would have to wait until the offseason.

In reality, Stanton isn't getting moved now, so whatevs, but it is fun to speculate.

i have to be honest, i really have no investment in whether they lose 97 games or 105 games or whatever this season. i just want to see certain guys progress. it's fun to win, but they'll be terrible whether it's with 97 losses or 100+

Yeah, it's stupid, but a while back for some reason I researched it and the Phillies have one of the longer streaks in MLB of not losing 100, and I'd rather they didn't. Anyway, it gives me something to root for. They also had one of the very longest streaks in MLB of not getting no-hit, another mark of ignominy they had avoided, until they fucked that up back in '14 or '15 whenever that was.
