So, we'll control him from ages 24-29. The only thing holding him back does is potentially give us a year of full control rather than arbitration, right?
We're not poor, so the arb thing is #$!&@. If he's great, we're paying him, and it's worth it. Worrying about whether we have to extend a kid who's not played AAA yet in 6 years or 7 is ridiculous.
Call up Alfaro, 'cause our catchers suck, and Williams (Saunders). I wish we had a 3B, even just to wake Maik the #$!&@ up. And, please, put some decent arms in the bullpen.

I don't think the arb/controllable years are the issue, at least I hope not. If he's good enough that we are going to have to give him a contract that impacts the financials of this team going forward then that's a good problem for us. What I'm reading is that it's a 40 man roster spot concern, they don't have to protect him until 2019, but if they bring him up now they have to protect him next year. I don't know who else has to be protected or we are in danger of losing, just echoing what I'd heard from the tv crew which I'm assuming they'd gotten from the fo.
Agree with the rest though, if someone is on the 40 now, bring them up. Nothing to lose at this point.

I'll bet we can find some chaff among the wheat on the 40-man.
