They've been trying to draft a yelich-type. May as well get the real thing

Completely agree. While I value plate discipline as much as the next person, there seems to be an obsession with it right now, with a devaluing of tools. Power still plays. An outfield of three Christian Yelich types isn't winning a World Series, I don't think. There needs to be a balance.

38 doubles, 3 triples, 21 homers last year in a pitcher's park at age 24.

I agree with Shore regarding Yelich. His OPS plus numbers over the years: 112, 115, 118, 133. This season he's at 106 and rising. Plus he's very fine defensively.

He's young. He's producing the way you hope your prospects will produce at the big league level. He's a perfect fit.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

can we get him without bothering with stanton?

i know 'we have the money' and 'he hits long dongs' and 'its a name' and wip and 975 are all uppity about it - guessing they'll say 'we settled' but whatever. you have two ofers who you're auditioning right now and unless they're moving odub (i would not mind this) you got a log jam already all of a sudden. adding two more and i duno?

i'd settle for yelich. i think he'll end up being more valuable and definitely give us more bang for the buck over the next 5 seasons than Stanton will be.

Mentioned in the minor league thread as well, but Cesar went 1 for 1 with 6 (yes, 6 (six)) walks in his final rehab start in Clearwater.

current speculation is cesar will replace altherr going to the dl for the roster move.

don't know of a howie kendrick update. guessing the whole 'not playing baseball' thing is probably lowering his trade value.

Heartened by the fact that Bleacher Report headlines it as "Angels, Blue Jays, Royals interested in Marlins star." If a .666 OPS over the last two years makes you a star, the Phillies have far more stars than I thought.
