He's right.

Phillips says that hitters should sit slider on Lidge, and Kruk and Young (the two guys who have actually played the game) politely tell him that you can't do that.

Does anyone think the difference was the Rockies were a hot team mediocre team on one of the hottest streaks in the history of baseball? and the phillies are a really good team that's just playing good ball the last 2 months?

I definitely think the off time helped the Phillies, rather than hurt them. Chase has been banged up, but he obviously looked better tongiht. Why? Off time. Howard was hardly swinging the bat so well that an off period was going to cool him off; granted, he looked more lost than ever tonight, but I don't really think that's attributable to the off time. Hamels loves off time.

I just don't see how it was that much of a negative for the Phillies.

Does Hamels really love off time? I've always though that he loved routine, regular rest.

Yea, I mean the guys is right. All the sliders he throws are in the dirt. Secondly it is so easy to tell that it is a breaking pitch.

And what percentage of the 2004 Red Sox do we suppose were on steroids?

Also: the radio guys noted the difference between FOX's radar, which had Madson at 95/96, and the stadium's radar, which had him at 91/92. My guess is it's FOX inflating the numbers to make it look better and more exciting.

Anyway, it's hard to believe the Phillies won that game. They tried so very hard not to do so.

I'm certainly glad they failed!

nah, i think the stadium gun might've been slow. i say this because a) grant balfour, who has consistently been in the mid-90s all season, was 94-96 and b) madson has been 94-97 in just about every game he's been in for the past 2 months. I really don't think the Fox gun was lying.

Really? That's pretty weak IMO, I don't recall him being that far off the path.

Any way to get Jim Jackson's radio re-cap of the game? The thing where they play all the audio highlights?

Some ESPN trivia:

-- Utley is the first player with a last name beginning with "U" to hit a HR in the World Series.
-- Hamels is the 3rd youngest lefty to win game 1 of the World Series. The youngest was Babe Ruth.

Question... could he bat? As a pitcher, are you allowed to be the DH too, or by rule do you need a seperate player?
