My MCW-Lin-Thompson-Thad-Noel win total is 25. Noel is the shit.

Dean on Draft glowing about the Sixers draft. This guy is a character.

http://deanondraft.com/2014/06/28/post- ... -1-hinkie/

Now that I have seen how the draft actually played out and processed all of the twists and turns and surprises, I. And if the title doesn’t make it clear, I think Sam Hinkie absolutely crushed the draft and has furthered my suspicion that he is the future best GM of all time.

I feel like Hinkie's become sort of a celebrity among NBA fans pretty quickly. It seems kind of abnormal, but maybe I'm just not used to people talking about the Sixers.

seems a little odd as I believe Dean had Saric as the 4th or so Euro prospect. I know he was way higher on Nurkic

First, I'm getting pretty excited for the embiid, Noel tandem. As I've said months ago, and after watching a couple of games, I like Noel at the 4. Right now, he's holding is own and definitely doing positive things, but at I can see him actually blossom sooner at the 4. I love this guy's hands. Couple that with his ability to cover so much ground so quickly, I think he may be able to terrorize the opponent better in space than down low. He can disrupt passing lanes, challenge the 3 and race back in for weakside shot blocking/rebounding, all the while not taking a pounding constantly fighting for position on the blocks against players 20-40 lbs heavier. This is not to say that he is not capable at the 5, I just think he will need the game to slow down, hopefully gain a few more pounds, but most importantly pick up on the nuances of the game that come from experience. And I could easily see that 6+ years down the road when he slows down a tad he will be most effective defensively at the 5.

I really like what I've seen from both mcdaniels and Thompson so far. It will be nice to see which one can win that d and 3 spot on the wing. Neither are or will be scorers, but given time to get set they can hit the open 3, what will separate them is what they do on the other side of the ball and how well they can fill up the stat sheet.

I really didn't bother to read too much, with I don't know what was going on here in this thread... But don't be surprised if hinkie comes out of the free agent period with a team much closer than we think. Hinkie knows that building through the draft is a gamble and while it may initially be the plan, he has created the flexibility to do a lot of different things. I was pretty sure the lebron was staying in Miami, now I'm far from sure. If he moves, this may create a ripple effect throughout the nba and one where hinkie with tons of cap room and assets can get things done. Two teams that have come up are Cleveland and Houston. I could see him taking on Lin and getting a Clint capela aka Jerome moiso, and a 2nd or maybe a first and then packaging some of that or whatever we have to Cleveland for jack and waiters. Suddenly, they could field a rather exciting team, albeit inexperienced.

4/5 Noel,sims,embiid, moultrie?
4 Capela
3/4 young, grant
2/3 McDaniel,Thompson,Richardson
2 waiters
1/2 Lin,wroten,jack
1 mcw
Granted pieces will be moved in and out and the backcourt is a little crowded and front court a little thin if moultrie is out and until embiid comes back. Richardson would most likely be bought out and jack would take on a veteran leadership role for the next few years backing up at the 1 and 2. But most importantly you're now looking at a core of mcw, waiters, Noel, embiid which has a strong possibility to flourish into something special.

There are probably a dozen other scenarios and I am so confident that hinkie has gone through them all will do what is best for the team.

Saric could end up stinking, sure. I just thought your analysis was odd, illinformed, inaccurate & kinda arrogant (last one may just be perception).

It's definitely arrogant, as is everything else I do. It's not that ill-informed, and we're already debating inaccurate or not. That leaves odd, which I don't really give a shit about.

It's not that complicated. He's seen as limited athletically, and he's playing white guys in Europe. Coming to the NBA isn't a cure for that particular ill. But, hey, you guys can name 5 euro-stashes in the last 15 years that made an impact, so I'm sure he'll be fine.

Can name way more than 5, the topic discussed before, IIRC, was Eurostashes that were drafted highly, which is unusual because most guys that enter their name into the draft aren't 20 years old. A 20 year old tearing up pro leagues in Europe is unusual.

yeah, but there are no black guys so w/e

i'm mostly saying this because i know shore is better than this. unless you can give a good analysis of the strength of the euro league v the strength of the nba and weight that to the fact that this kid is 20 years old and tearing it up stating "the league has no black guys" isn't analysis, it's hand-wavy bullshit based on racial profiling. i personally know several black guys who are terrible at basketball.

Just to push back on this, the plausible other pick at 10 was McDermott (and I've already said I'd have been fine taking him too).

He played 3 years in the MVC. In those 3 years combined, the First Team All Conference teams in that league had 1 other pro, combined (Cleantony Early, 2nd rounder in this year's draft). I know they had no other D league caliber players either, and I'd wager strong money that none of those guys are getting paid to play pro BBall

His senior year they moved to the "Big East." First team in that conference last year had one other draft pick (Semaj Chrison, 2nd rounder from Xavier) and a UDFA (Cotton, PG from Xavier). It was not a strong league, eventally won by former BE afterthought Providence.

Saric was playing in the Adriatic League, which will not be mistaken for the NBA any time soon. But at least he was playing against grown men (usually as a power forward on D), as he has done since he was 14.

He's also had a pretty distinguished international career:

2010 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship: named MVP and put up 24.3/11.5 rpg/5.8 apg.

2011 FIBA Under-19 World Championship: put up 18.1 ppg/10.1 rpg playing as a 17 year old

2012 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship: put up 25.6/10. Won MVP. Croatia won gold

Also played twice in the Nike Hoops Summit as an 18 and 17 yo (this is against real U.S. prospects, including Noel, Gary Harris, McGary, etc). In the 2012 game he put up 13 and 14 as the World team won. See recap
