Sam Hinkie: *coughing* its a shame we didn't have the chance to draft wiggins. that kid looks like he can chief.

Josh Harris: no doubt. but this embiid guy is no lightweight. image search "african weed", you might shit yourself just looking at it *sounds of bong bubbling*. by the way, did you really draft saric just for his connection to the Turkish Marijuana Cartel?

Sam Hinkie: *exhales small cloud of smoke then inhales cloud before it dissipates* *grins* the philly fans have no idea the goal of the 5 year plan is for me to get as high as possible.

Now I understand why Sam is so interested in high draft picks.

Brett Brown: jesus christ, sam! i was sure you were gonna make that big trade! ...could it have just been posturing?

Sam Hinkie: *winks* you know how much i love my "smokescreens". *weed smoke galore explodes out of hinkie's nose completely enveloping his face*

I hate to even engage in this but this part - not being anxious about the future - is the Cataldi-style mouth-breather stuff that annoys me:
SH: "That's the beauty of it. We tell them nothing. I don't answer to them. They smell of beer and mustard. As long as we don't define success, no one can say we aren't successful! Wins don't mean success. Attendance doesn't mean success. The only measure of success is what you and I decide. We're on a need-to-know basis and the fans don't need to know. After all, we're smarter than they are and none of them could run this team as well as I can. Do you think just anyone could lose this much while making it look like we actually have a plan? Let me tell you, 26 losses in a row is no easy accomplishment."

Hinkie answered questions during the season. he had a long press conference the day after the draft. he explained pretty clearly why he doesn't say much in the week before the draft. in that week before the draft, however, they had an open house where Brown talked to the crowd for a half hour and I got a picture with Tony Wroten's jersey

the whole idea that they're completely clandestine is nonsense

Also, they've come out many times and said that they want to build a team that's going to compete for championships. So they have defined success. It's being a contender and not a treadmill team.

I didn't read the last 5 or so pages of the previous thread because I hate when my parents argue and I can't afford any more therapy.

Hinkie has been very, very clear that this is a long term plan and has been relatively active in terms of collecting assets(TM) in an attempt to increase his margin for error going forward. The measurables we have with him are the Saric pick/trade and the Jrue/Turner/Hawes trades. He traded the left overs from the previous administration and turned them into assets(TM).

There is reason for skepticism since we can't earnestly evaluate progress for another year or two. If this team hasn't moved forward by the middle/end of 15/16 then I'll start getting antsy. If we're still bad at the end of 16/17 then I'll be ready to move on/

I think Wroten still has a chance to be a solid player

Interesting stat from him last year: he had 8.9 FTAs per 100 possessions. That was actually better than Harden's second year, in which Harden played about 3500 more minutes (and had 8.1 FTAs/100)

Of guys who played 1750 minutes last year (arbitrary cutoff to fit in Wroten), he was 14th in NBA in FTA/100

Howard
Cousins
Durant
Harden
Griffin
Love
DeRozan
LeBron
Brow
Carmelo
Ramon Sessions
Alec Burks
Lawson

Wroten's still also over a year younger than McDermott. Not a qualitative comparison at all, but just for perspective

Forgive me, I skipped over a few pages in the previous thread. Are people writing off Wroten School of Business? He'll never be a productive starter in the league or maybe even a 6th man, but he's definitely a rotation guy.

I'm not writing him off, but I think he has a lot of work to do. He's horribly inefficient at the moment. He has great size and some intriguing talents though.
