Lebron James and four inevitable busts drafted by Sam Hinkie

Copying this from the last thread regarding international players who are picked high and then don't come over immediately (for the love of god, let's not continue any of the other conversations we had going on in there):

Gimpy wrote:

Rubio too. He spent two years overseas and is a good player.

Fuck it, I'm curious. I'm looking back now.

Other International Top 20 picks (aside from Valanciunas and Rubio) who played a season or more overseas before coming to the NBA include:

Oleksly Pecherov (drafted 18th in 2006) played a year overseas and was pretty underwhelming.
Fran Vazquez (drafted 11th in 2005) never played in the NBA.
Frederic Weis (drafted 15th in 1999) never played in the NBA.

So that's five in 15 years that I found. Two are good, two never came over, and one (who was drafted outside of the lottery) was forgettable.

do we have any quotes from those guys saying they'll definitely come over in two years and could try to buy out after one

Yea, it's one of the lazier ones.

I liked Cleveland and New Orleans the most probably. San Francisco's is good too.

So I just found out that the Cavs left that Gilbert letter on their website until yesterday. It was up for four years. I hope LeBron doesn't sign there.

I read all the PSU message boards. And this one. I am almost positive this one has the most passionate and knowledgeable Sixers fans and I guess that makes sense. The PSU 247 board Sixers talk is actually very good for the most part. The Sixers are a very popular topic now in all of PA.

It seems like the majority are willing to sacrifice the short term for long term but I can completely understand those who are hesitant with this strategy.
Do it again!

I couldn't root for LeBron signing with the Lakers, Knicks or Celtics, so I would really not like for him to go to those places.

Talked with my cousin's boyfriend, who is a Sixers fan, for a good while this weekend on a few occasions while we were deep into the IPAs about how cool it would be if he was a Sixers. But I think I'd enjoy LeBron back in Cleveland too. Or really anywhere other than the above places and Miami with decrepit Wade.

And the discussion in the last thread was very politics thread-y, taking most arguments in the least charitable way possible, and attacking them thus.

I'm legit worried he'd go to Cleveland and be better off for it with Irving and Wiggins for the next four years. That team would be a beast right as the Sixers were trying to ascend. The Heat, on the other hand, would have old Wade, Bosh and McBob dragging around.

Cleveland deserves it, even if their douche owner doesn't.

I want the Sixers to be good but am not a Sixers fan. Never disliked them, rooted for them in the 2001 Finals, but grew up a Nets fan. Really like what Hinkie is doing and am without a team since the Nets left NJ (with them trading for Pierce and KG as the death knell), so I think I'm gradually making the transition to them being my team while I root for whoever LeBron plays for (non Lakers/Knicks/Celtics division) in the interim. But I'm not in a huge hurry to invest real feelings into a 20 win squad, even one employing Henry Sims and Hollis Thompson. I'm a terrible person and a frontrunner and whatever, but I'm OK with that.

that you know Hollis Thompson and Henry Sims are on the team puts you in the 60th percentile roughly

They're both Hoyas. Hollis can shoot and Hank worked hard, and I'm very happy they are getting paid, but at no point in their college careers did it look like they would be contributors at the NBA level.
