it was a great watch. Just watching that game I was in love with so many players on that team. It's a shame they fucked it up by trading Moses.

I will say I prefer how today's game creates more space for isos and drives to the basket. It's a more entertaining game nowadays.

Keith Pompey showing no signs of being an improvement over John Mitchell:

The Sixers have made four quality draft picks in the middle of the first round in the last six years:

Nik Vucevic

(2011, Southern California): The native of Switzerland started in 15 games last season after the Sixers selected him with the 16th pick of the first round. He was traded to Orlando in the offseason and averaged 13.1 points and 11.9 rebounds while starting in 77 games.

Jrue Holiday

(2009, UCLA): The Chatsworth, Calif., native developed into an NBA all-star last year in his fourth season with the Sixers. The point guard, who was the 17th overall pick, had a career-best average in points (17.7) and assists (eight) this past season.

Thaddeus Young

(2007, Georgia Tech): The forward, who was taken 12th overall, is regarded as one of the most versatile players on the Sixers' roster. He has averaged 13 points and 5.4 rebounds in six seasons as a Sixer.

That whole article is bizarre.

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/six ... _good.html

Lists several guys that were immediately traded. Then he doesn't mention Vuc (The last center we drafted) in his list. And I'd say that Vuc, Dalembert and even TMac were fine selections relative to where they were picked. There's also no analysis at all. Really lazy article.

Well, Pompey went to Pitt, so I can see why counting to 4 might be a challenge

Tinsley, Parker and Arenas disagree

lol tinsley

im not saying he was the guy i would have picked in retrospect (obviously you take parker or agent 0) but a starting calibre center with the 26th pick? I'll take that every time. I'd take that with 11 on Thursday.

Wonder if we would have taken Crash Wallace if Sac didn't take him the pick before. Seems like a prototypical Larry Brown guy.

The ten years he's started at center in the NBA? He's not good, but he was a starter, the same way Hawes is a starting caliber center even though he sucks.

The point is, you don't often find big men with a pulse at #26. That's not a bad pick at all, and really, Jamaal Tinsley? I always dreamed the Sixers would draft an oft-injured point guard. I'll give you Parker and Arenas, but there's far worse picks to slam them for than the Sammy D pick.

Mainly because due to the unique genius of Billy King he got paid starter's money without having ever actually started

You know the quickest way to my heart is to invoke the Billy King card. God I hated Billy King.

The point in a nutshell: Drafting Sammy D wasn't a mistake. He was at worst a useful role player (good shot blocker, passable rebounder, tall). The mistake when it comes to him was re-signing him.

Agreed, or not bidding against yourself to the tune of $60MM dollars.

Well no, he started over 150 games before he got that contract.

That contract was the height of Billy King's idiocy (We have to give him $10 million a year or we won't have anyone to play center!) but there was a 7 year stretch where Sam was at least one of the top 30 centers in the league, some years where he was a good bit higher than that actually. That's good value at 26.

Remember those Dalembert for Joe Johnson rumors that first year Nash got to Phoenix? Those were fun.

Actually no, trying to give Willie Green a 5 year/$18 million contract, then Willie tearing his miniscus or whatever, then him coming back and playing 5 games, then giving him the same freaking contract the following summer was the height of Billy King's idiocy.

Or was it that time he was planning for 3 years to have cap room, but he gave Calvin Booth a 2nd year player option for who knows why, so we had to give the TWolves Carney + a Future 1st to get them to take the salary.

Really so many options, glad he's in our division screwing up the Nets now.
