there is no truth so you must trust only Donald. trust him symbolically, not literally. trust in him, and only him. don't believe him, but believe him.

Tom Cotton hates Russia. He hates Vladimir Putin. But, he's going to support Rex Tillerson because he was nominated by the incoming Republican president:
“I look forward to supporting his nomination,” the Arkansas Republican said in an interview after his meeting with Tillerson. “I expect him to bring the same hard-nosed focus on the interests of the United States that he brought to the interests of ExxonMobil shareholders as CEO there.”

Trust in Republicans in Congress to be a check on The Donald at your peril. They're too scared.

"great temperament"; "good judgment"

It is hard to believe that his people are really this blind and deaf. What a bunch of disgusting sycophants.

Yeah, this Tony Boombatz is another fake "rich guy", supposedly a hedge funder who just finds it a noble service to his country to spend all his valuable businessman time showing up on cable tv apologizingsplaining for drumpf

Gingrich: Trump backing away from 'drain the swamp'

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/12/newt-gingirch-trump-drain-the-swamp-232878

The 12 days start after Christmas... save up.

I'm told he now just disclaims that. He now says it was cute, but he doesn't want to use it anymore,” the former House Speaker and close Trump adviser said of the “drain the swamp” message

Dear average Trump voter, not only do you get NOTHING, you will get a swift kick in the ass, then your wallet stolen (and your bank account drained). This is what unilateral negotiation feels like on a personal level, enjoy.

So Gingrich essentially confirms what many of us already suspected/knew, that our president-elect is nothing but a conman engaged in a massive bait-and-switch operation to control our government and enrich himself, his family and his already millionaire and billionaire pals. And if all of that is not bad enough, there is a large pool of the voting public that either has no idea that they were played for suckers or know and do not care.

I've been spending a lot of time in pro-Trump internet places and they're all rationalizing that quote, and for every few posts there's a handful that are like, oh man this isn't good, he needs to do what he said! It's kind of funny to see.

All the Trump surrogates are well-trained in fascist propaganda: landslide win, won the popular vote, good temperment, judgment, precise, etc., etc. They'll just keep repeating the lies over and over and over until it's accepted as fact. Straight out of the Nazi playbook. Listening to any interview with them makes me want to bash my head against a wall.

I don't really agree with this prevalent line of thinking. Most Americans already have a reservoir of distrust & dislike of this guy. There will always be True Believer losers but I really think he'll be distrusted and unliked by an even bigger number in a few months and years.

Trump is still tweeting about the popular vote. It clearly doesn't rankle him that he had so many fewer votes.

This morning I was cleaning up my folio I use to haul stuff around the office to meetings and such, I I found that I wrote this on a sticky and stuck it inside for some reason. Not sure where it came from, if I imagined it or if someone said it, but the words are: "You know this, and you know that I know that this is just conman code to tell you how to think." It seems cosmically correct that it ended up in my hands again this morning before Newt broke this bit of news.

You're probably right that the more they see of him, the more people will distrust and dislike him. He'll never get nominated, let alone elected.

A few things:

1. He is so sensitive to criticism or even perceived criticism I believe that he will really lose it at some point, and I'm not just talking some twitter storm or something. It could be really bad, or it could be good in that it will end his presidency.

2. It's pretty clear given his cabinet appointments, especially his secretary of labor, that his solution to competition from China is to make it possible to create Chinese-like factory conditions here--low wages, and no health and safety requirements. I think it will take awhile for the Trumpies to recognize this, if they care at all. On the other hand, accelerating this shift combined with the dismantling of what remains of our safety net and you'll see real misery that I don't think can be obscured by rhetoric. When grandma dies because Trump allowed Ryan to dismantle Medicare, people may notice.

3. Too many people think you can run government like a business. You can't. Being President is not like being CEO. (It's not like being Senator either, but I think Senators understand this.) It is sort of like being governor. I think this fact is likely to frustrate Trump and his appointees. I do worry that he appears to have enough enablers that at least at first he may be able to get his way on things. But eventually, as things go south, his grip on them is likely to weaken. The fact that he doesn't seem to intend to spend a lot of time on being President will make this work.

4. I'm glad Uber is losing money. Wish there were a way to short sell it. (Though even if there were, I'd really lack the resources or expertise to do it.)

Thankfully he can be denied a second term even if every one of his lemmings vote for him again in 2020.

in order for that type of dick-tucked-between the legs type of fear based sarcasm to work, you'd have to ignore how shitty of a candidate Hillary was. Trump is also about to enter the Oval Office with the lowest job approval rating ever recorded by Gallup. If the two new scandals every day pace keeps up I don't know why you think that approval rating would go up.

One thing that might happen is that tax cuts+infrastructure spending will create a deficit driven economic boom. Since really no one at all actually cares about the debt, this could boost his popularity a bit.

In addition, there is a way he could finesse the ACA by modifying it a bit and saying it's repeal and replace. Here is where his lack of political skills is a problem, as there are plenty of Republicans in Congress who I think are serious about repeal because they don't like it when people can actually get medical treatment (I mean did you read Huizinga's story about not treating his kid's broken arm?) and the Democrats should oppose him regardless of what he wants to do and he simply may not have the votes.
