“We did great with the African-American community,” Trump said at a Thursday rally in Pennsylvania. “So good. Remember the famous line, because I talk about crime, I talk about lack of education, I talk about no jobs. And I’d say, what the hell do you have to lose? Right? It’s true. And they’re smart and they picked up on it like you wouldn’t believe. And you know what else? They didn’t come out to vote for Hillary. They didn’t come out. And that was a big. So thank you to the African-American community.”

nah, African-Americans voted at fairly decent rates compared to 2012 and voted 89% for Clinton. Perhaps in specific states they came out in lower numbers, but hte percentages and turnout was fairly decent. i think a lot of this narrative that the 'Obama coalation didnt vote' was cemented on Nov 9th when we have a much clearer picture almost 40 days since then. Younger people who voted voted for Clinton in general but they certainly had lower turnout. black people had slightly lower turnout but they weren't the reason she lost.

Kind of a fascinating map with a lot going on-Blue areas are where Dem Senate candidates ran ahead of Hillary, Red areas are where GOP Senate candidates ran ahead of Trump. So an area can be blue because the Dem Senate candidate did amazingly well (like Missouri) or because Trump did especially well for a Republican (like Kentucky). Red reasons would be reversed. Darker colors, bigger margins.

The metro/rural divides are consistent and interesting. Unless I'm missing one or two the only metro cores Trump outperformed the GOP senate candidate in the top tier races are St. Louis, KC, and Las Vegas. This holds in races where Trump did a lot better than the GOP candidate, like in Indiana where Trump ran 10 points ahead of Young, but Indianapolis is red. And then on the other side Ohio, where Portman ran way ahead of Trump, is dark red around Cleveland, Columbus and Cincy, while southeast Ohio was Trumpland. Florida, where Marco ran 7 points ahead of Trump building huge relative margins not only in South Florida, but around Orlando and Jacksonville, while Trump did better in less populated parts of the state. Even in some of the less competitive senate races where Trump did relatively better statewide than the senate candidate, places like Seattle and Denver are red.

one of my theories is that a lot of mental children voted Trump bc they were tired of identity politics, and people confronting inequality in America.

I'm back in the boat. Bought back a bit on the Brexit dip, but not enough to do much more than break even because of the lag in my 401K. Amazing how fast that post election correction happened. Hours. Oh well...I still like my logic. I'm watching what the Doubleline funds do for guidance. When they start taking cash off the table, I might as well. Market still doesn't make sense and I don't think this rally is real, but we'll see. Infrastructure spending is already priced in, failure to get that would give us a pullback. Not sure what sets off a correction at this point. Even further disintegration of the EU seems like it's priced in. I'm not even sure that Deutsche failing would set it off at this point. I feel like we're all looking for structural weakness above our heads and we're going to find out the hard way that we were standing on a broken floor board.

Breaking: The FBI supports the CIA's assessment that Russia intervened in the 2016 election in part to help elect Donald Trump.

And when it comes to intervening to help Trump, the FBI knows what it's talking about.
