Allies in Moscow 'having meetings'. I guess this is emerging news, but it sure sounds suspicious ahead of the story.

Really interesting (and encouraging) article in today's NYT about Democratic state attorneys general acting as a bulwark against Trump's worst policies.

PHOENIX - Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Chief Investigator Mike Zullo will be talking about President Barack Obama’s birth certificate on Thursday.

According to MCSO, Arpaio and Zullo will be presenting the “newest revelations” to the investigation of Obama’s birth certificate.

The press conference will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday in Phoenix.

from an earlier piece:
Arpaio initially said no taxpayer money would be spent on the investigation and that it would be funded through donations to the posse. But he later promised to use the donations to reimburse the county for some costs after it was revealed that he had sent a sheriff's employee to Hawaii as part of the case.

The sheriff won praise in a 2012 tweet from Trump: "Congratulations to @RealSheriffJoe on his successful Cold Case Posse investigation which claims @BarackObama's `birth certificate' is fake"

The sheriff has never backed down from the investigation.

Two months ago, he said under oath in an unrelated deposition that the investigation into the birth certificate was ongoing. "And, by the way, that investigation is not done yet," Arpaio testified.

Arpaio has said the investigation was necessary because nearly 250 people tied to an Arizona tea party group raised forgery allegations about Obama's birth record.

I've been thinking a lot about some conversations I overheard from a bunch of boy scouts. As an adult, my job is to listen, but not participate (they forget you exist and are standing there in about 7 minutes). This discussion was among the older guys in 10th and 11th grade, but their serious discussion was about how many years they are draft eligible during Trumps presidency. They were only counting on 4 years, but a little short sighted if the concern is that we will have a draft and go to war, and with an administration change it could be turn off like a light switch.

My point is this: Our children are worried that the incoming president is going to get the country into a war so dire that there will be a draft necessary to fill the military ranks. For humans who have never seen a scenario where there was a draft, that is monumental.

Why are people so freaked out about Ivanka setting up in the White House?

During a March 2006 appearance on "The View" with his daughter Ivanka, Donald Trump was asked how he would react if Playboy magazine were to ever feature Ivanka's picture on its cover. Mr. Trump responded:

"I don't think Ivanka would do that inside the magazine. Although she does have a very nice figure. I've said that if Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I would be dating her."

Donald Trump to Howard Stern: It's okay to call my daughter a 'piece of ass'

That seems to tell a creepy story. I mean some amount of votes were cast just for this type of behavior.

Hey, I was not interested in seeing it. Yuck.

Apparently the VF beef is like a decade old from when the editor called Donnie a short fingered Bulgarian. If I were a Bulgarian, I'd be pissed.

FWIW, I've been to Bulgaria and have no interest in returning. I was only in Sofia, and it was long enough ago that it was still a very Soviet cement block city.

In the news...

1. Daily Press Briefings will be anything but daily.

2. The transition is transparent because there are camera's in the lobby of Trump Tower.

3. there is no three where the press is concerned.

border concerns:
RIO GRANDE CITY — Just a few weeks before taking office, President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team has already taken steps toward fulfilling his campaign promise to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo.

“My understanding is that the sectors have been asked by headquarters at the request of the transition team, ‘Tell us where you think we ought to have a wall,’” Cuellar said.

“I can tell you about the one in Laredo; they basically said no wall,” Cuellar said referring to the Laredo sector’s response. “But, nevertheless, they said ‘No, that’s not good enough, come back and tell us where we ought to put fence, wall, structure, whatever you want to call it.’”

“Kay Granger and I added $750 million to help the northern triangle,” he said referring to the Texas congressman who also sits on the House Appropriations Committee. “That was about a year ago, and as of maybe at least two weeks, they had only used $23 million out of the $750 million while we’re still having a large number of unaccompanied kids that are still coming in at this particular time.”

Cuellar hoped the funds would be used to provide assistance to Central America but also reiterated the need to secure the border.

“There’s some of us that believe that we can’t just play defense on the one yard line where we spend over $18 billion a year on border security,” he said.
