What are you doing in Mississippi? That's next door!

I just started a Ph.D program in Geology at Mississippi State.

I pulled Lyell's Principles of Geology off my shelf a few days ago and thought, "I should read this," and then put it back.

Perfect timing! I'm trying to figure out what kind of indigenous rock (there's even a quarry cut in the hill out back!) that my house is made out of. Took the core drilling guy about an hour and a half when he thought he'd be out of here in 10 minutes. I'll mail you a sample!

I've felt extraordinarily terrible lately. No focus, awful self esteem, generally disgusted with the shape I'm in and very paranoid about the people I'm closest with. Vacation was a great reprieve but I've been on the phone with Verizon for 30 minutes already and know I have another fun call with my (previous?) home insurance company whenever this wraps up.

sorry, man. would recommend going for a run, maybe meditating. try to clear your head of negative thoughts. they usually aren't too helpful.

start documenting your happy moments (a photo from a vacation or writing down moments of joy). You could bookmark your favorite BSG posts even! We tend to quickly lose sight of these things and leave them in the past when the now is revolving around us so fast. It's a great way to ground yourself. Lean on us friend.

mindfulness is always good advice. Friend is going to run a half marathon in November, I offered to be the guy that helps keep him motivated to train for it. This is hilarious because the friend in question is in incredible shape.

That's a solid avenue to take for accountability and mental health clarity. You will feel much worse if you let someone else down. From my experience, just being in incredible shape isn't an indicator that you can rock it day in and day out, since there are times when you need a push of outside perspective to keep you on your tippy toes. His brain probably isn't immune to tough times either. Being there for him is being there for you too

Sorry to hear that, Soren. Hope you find something to latch onto. Remember things can always get worse! Or forget that, or something..
