Calvin have you looked into doing Zion next year? (If you haven't before). The Narrows and Angels Landing alone is worth it.

What kinda stumps? They new or old? I've tow chained out about ten stumps this year.

If they are bigggg and fresh might need to just be left to dried and grinded.

If neither are an option a mini excavator will do the trick. Or a skidder and a 1500lb chain with hooks.

You can rent one for like 200 bucks a day and have a blast :)

Like big boy Tonka trucks.

#1 is done, 2 to go!!

Image

each of the trunks (on the right) are about 6" in diamter. Due to the rocky soil, the roots are all over the place. I also wanted to make sure I got rid of the bulk of the surrounding roots to remove the "hump". I had a few other trees cut down & grinded and I hate the hump that is still there.

2 more to go, hopefully easier- they're each only single trunks of about 6".

Yeah, I thought about renting a tow-behind backhoe. Didn't know if I'd b able to commit enough time to it today though. The "ripper tooth" on this model looks like just what the doctor ordered. Didn't even inquire if my local rental house had this option. fast forward to about 7:15 to check it out.

That ripper tooth looks badass.

Would be a sweet rental for a day. Wonder if I can find one if those by me....

I didn't want to show off to the new neighbors.

FWIW I use this "jawsaw" and it really helps out. Dig out around the root a bit and then push this puppy in. Works well. A few larger roots required the chainsaw. I wasn't paying attention to me through side on one cut and ran the chainsaw through dirt and ROONED a brand new chain.

hahaha funny, i actually considered that! After I had severed all the leads that I could find, the stump was rocking back and forth a little but wouldn't come loose. I thought the spreaders would be the perfect tool for the job- just put something down on the ground to push against, slide it under the stump as far as I could and use it vertically to pry the thing right out. then I reconsidered, because using something so expensive to do a job that it's not designed for (and could possibly damage the unit) would've been irresponsible. Wait, that never stopped me before.... :q

Does anyone here have a portable a/c unit they really like? We need one for our first floor and all reviews I read are mixed on every model

I have one, it works well enough for one room but is loud and is a pain to drain when it fills up (which happens regularly when it gets humid). I'm considering getting a window unit this weekend to replace it as I sit here listening to it.
