No he doesn't. No one serious observer believes he can win a general election, or even possibly that he is genuinely committed to doing so. Not one. Pundits pretend that they believe it in public because hey, they need some kind of horserace to report on. Turnip is a failure who will fail at this as he's failed at so many other things he's confidently predicted he would 'win' at.

Sounds like establishment GOP'ers are getting a-scared

At a Priebus dinner with GOP officials and power brokers...
several longtime power brokers argued that if the controversial billionaire storms through the primaries, the party’s establishment must lay the groundwork for a floor fight, in which the GOP’s mainstream wing could coalesce around an alternative

Because of the sensitivity of the topic — and wary of saying something that, if leaked, would provoke Trump to bolt the party and mount an independent bid — Priebus and McConnell were mostly quiet during the back and forth.

But near the end, McConnell and Priebus did acknowledge to the group that a deadlocked convention is indeed something the party should prepare for, both institutionally at the RNC and politically at all levels in the coming months.

they're not afraid that he will win a general election. The Rs 'leadership' are finally getting around to showing signs that they'll act to eliminate any possibility he even has a chance to attempt it under its 'brand'. It's a non-starter, as they used to say.
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

How come no one has questioned Cruz's plan to "carpet bomb" the Isis? We don't carpet bomb. It's old school and it doesn't work. We use precision guided bombs nowadays. It hits the target and reduces collateral damage. Carpet bombing would kill innocent Muslims and just radicalize more of them. A guy running for president should know that.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

Yup. They're afraid that he will continue to create chaos in a system that is designed to weed out the chaos well in advance of the party convention. Every dollar spent making sure Trump can't win a primary or convention fight is a dollar that they can't spend against Clinton. That's a huge problem for the GOP.

Between that and the fear that Trump is diluting the GOP brand among non-racists, they've got some legit concerns.

But neither of those concerns are the same as believing that he could actually win. He couldn't. The American electorate is generally dumb and superficial, but not that dumb and superficial.

He's saying it because it sounds tougher/cooler, not because he means that from a military tactic standpoint.

Cruz is crazy, but he's an incredibly smart guy and very good at rhetoric. He always knows exactly what he's saying.

it's weird though...he called a gun a machine gun when it wasn't and says stuff like this (inept military strategy we don't do) that if a Democrat said it the Republican base would be laughing and rolling down the aisles at how little they know about real man things. Cruz gets away with it for whatever reason.

so the GOP heads apparently met to discuss a brokered convention scenario

538 had a discussion on it that I found to be interesting

Eagles had only a 12 percent shot to beat the Patriots last week, according to our Elo ratings. I put a contested convention on about the same plane as that.

“There are those who contend that it does not benefit African-Americans to get them into the University of Texas, where they do not do well — as opposed to having them go to a less advanced school, a slower-track school where they do well,” Scalia said from the bench. “One of the briefs pointed out that most of the black scientists in this country don’t come from schools like the University of Texas. They come from lesser schools where they do not feel that they’re being pushed ahead in classes that are too fast for them.”

Scalia went on to say that it could be bad if the “really competent blacks” do not go to these “lesser” schools because they might then not become scientists. “I don’t think it stands to reason for the University of Texas to admit as many blacks as possible,” he concluded.

I don't know what that chart means though. A $200K salary means a whole lot of different things in different eras, regions, industries (e.g., professions that typically come with grad school loans), etc. Are they normalizing in any way or adjusting for inflation?
