George Washington was a geezer by his era's standards: 58 at the time of his election, a period when a 20 year old man might expect to live into his late 40s.

65 is the new 45.

And maybe you were unaware, but women generally outlive men. They're tougher, I guess.

-AP breaks story yesterday about Iran being largely responsible for carrying out its own inspections at Parchin
-AP overnight edits the copy removing some details to create space to add more reaction quotes for what they send out to their print subscribers
-Liberal sites such as Vox, Talking Points Memo (who said the story sounded eye poppingly scary before the most important details were 'scrubbed'), and pacino's Haaretz link jump all over the edits, claiming AP stealthily retracted the meat of the story
-AP explains they didn't retract anything, the updated online version was what they sent to their print subscribers, and they restore the cut details to the online version of the story
-To quell the continuing complaints for how they handled the story, AP releases the transcript of the draft memo, demonstrating that Iran is largely responsible for carrying out its own inspections at Parchin
-Liberal responses shift to "Oh Parchin isn't that important anyway" and "They can look at it with satellites" (see pacino's reaction...glad I'm the only one who has a team to give him talking points)
-docsmooth shuffles in at 1 AM, calls me Dick Morris for saying something anyone who had been following the story online today knew was true 10 hours ago

Exclusive: Dozens of Clinton emails were classified from the start, US rules suggest - Those nasty right wingers at Reuters

But the details included in those "Classified" stamps — which include a string of dates, letters and numbers describing the nature of the classification — appear to undermine this account, a Reuters examination of the emails and the relevant regulations has found.

The new stamps indicate that some of Clinton's emails from her time as the nation's most senior diplomat are filled with a type of information the U.S. government and the department's own regulations automatically deems classified from the get-go — regardless of whether it is already marked that way or not.

In the small fraction of emails made public so far, Reuters has found at least 30 email threads from 2009, representing scores of individual emails, that include what the State Department's own "Classified" stamps now identify as so-called 'foreign government information.' The U.S. government defines this as any information, written or spoken, provided in confidence to U.S. officials by their foreign counterparts.

This sort of information, which the department says Clinton both sent and received in her emails, is the only kind that must be "presumed" classified, in part to protect national security and the integrity of diplomatic interactions, according to U.S. regulations examined by Reuters.

...

Although it appears to be true for Clinton to say none of her emails included classification markings, a point she and her staff have emphasized, the government's standard nondisclosure agreement warns people authorized to handle classified information that it may not be marked that way and that it may come in oral form.

The State Department disputed Reuters' analysis but declined requests to explain how it was incorrect.

A senior State Department official said that the U.N. nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, or IAEA, would have "total oversight" of sampling and inspections of Parchin under the agreement between the agency and Iran over access to the site.

"Iran is not self-inspecting," the official said, though this official would not deny that Iranian inspectors will "play a role."

The official noted that the arrangement satisfies the demands of the IAEA.

"Play a role" = observe or assist. This is a common IAEA practice to legitimize the inspections for the UN and for whomever they're inspecting (so they can't be accused of falsifying results or "planting evidence"). It's not a caveat or concession. The IAEA does this with everyone.

Deez Nuts will fix this inherently flawed Iran deal! His vice president BOFA will be a strong force in the negotiating room.

This thread is only great because of jerseyhoya. Does he overstate the truthiness of his position with complete confidence sometimes? (Iran deal) Yea, but we do it too, it just doesn't annoy us so we don't notice our biases.

Lashing out at him for correctly pointing out Bernie has no chance is weird.

moderately moderate Jeb Bush is calling kids of undocumented immigrants 'anchor babies' now.

how far has the rhetoric and discussion fallen on the right? pretty sad stuff, to be seriously honest here. thought maybe this time would be a better campaign season but it's actually worse.

Indeed, kudos to jersey. I think his politics are awful, but then he thinks mine are awful: c'est la vie. People consistently abuse him, whilst arguing in irrationally reactionary ways. I am guilty of this myself at times, which is why I am not nor ever will be a politician. But let's recognize that some of the irrational lefty overreaction here does not help our cause, and that we'd all benefit from honing our abilities to look at things through "dispassionate observer" lenses and not partisan ones. Civility is its own reward, people.

I think that's a fair perspective but he's a dishonest dude who thinks he is/is part of some larger Republican team and would rather represent a pro-team viewpoint than be honest with people he considers friends. that's my main gripe.

I'm not sure how you can divine where genuine disagreement ends and "go team" cynicism begins, but even if one could, and even if we can assume that jersey is guilty of the latter, I'm not sure how any of us could know if he were guilty of it with his "friends," except for any posters who really know him personally - because the fact that we all post in this thread in this message board does not make us "friends."

But I love you all!

depends on who you ask. the real hardliners would say that even children of legal immigrants need to prove their love this country and get naturalized citizenship, that the 14th amendment somehow doesnt apply to them.

either way, it's a great way to court votes from newer American families, by questioning their allegiances.

This Bloomberg editorial doesn't seem to realize the complete aversion to the EPA by over half of the people in the legislature. none of what they outline will happen, and the Gold King Mine will become a reason for many to further restrain the EPA, not boost it.

Greece's ruling coalition collapsed, Tsipras resigned and called for new elections. I would assume he'll win? DIM?
the interesting part is the people that defected formed a new party called Popular Unity (instantly 3rd) based upon the idea of exiting the Eurozone. This could get crazy.
Reports suggest the election - the fifth in six years - will be called for 20 September.

Honestly, why do you bother? There has to be a better board for engaging folks on politics. This thread is all hot takes and name calling. Probably why reasonable people like dajafi no longer post. I feel like an idiot just for reading this thread, and learning all about Bernie Sanders' libertarian following. I'm just waiting for the growing contradiction that is docsmooth's misogyny and blind loyalty to the Democratic party to come to a crushing head.
