It's all based on where you're standing and how you define things I guess, but outside of Pataki, the rest of the people in the moderate circle aren't moderate - or at least aren't moderate based on what we'd think in times gone by. Would think Kasich certainly and Jeb and Christie maybe would fall better in a section labeled pragmatic conservative or non-orthodox conservative or something along those lines. Graham would too if he didn't want to bomb everything that moved.

It's never been clear to me why DWS was party chair, but she really struggles. Hard to imagine she brings a lot to the table behind the scenes in building donor networks/maintaining fractious party orgs like Reince or has a strategic vision like Dean, and it seems like she says or does something demonstrating her lack of aptitude for the job on a pretty regular basis. Matthews has become more hackish over the past decade, but good to see him not let her sink immediately into the talking points.

I'd expect 'questioning' - basically hectoring - like that on Fox. That is one loutish jackass frat boy display.

I've been involved in shepherding some big name speakers for one of my volunteer organizations - and hence I've had some casual encounters with Chris Matthews, Bob Woodward, Barbara Bush, Joan Lunden, Ben Stein. Biggest ArseHat is a tie between Matthews, who studiously avoided engaging with any one, and Woodward, who treated grown men and women like busboys. Both displayed their outsized egos. Barbara Bush is the most gracious woman I've ever met, learning and remembering names of everyone around her. Lunden seems as sweet as her public persona. Stein was an oddball, telling dirty jokes to an audience that included kids -- but he stuck around to chat and sign autographs for more than an hour.
