berks races
10 races without challengers, including one on a federal level. Everything's completely fine with our system.

I do think Calvin is right--more people should be willing to run for office, especially at the local level where all kinds of shenanigans go on especially when elected officials are not held accountable by competitive elections. But it's a pretty big commitment, and it can be pretty unpleasant.

Have this in my town for BOE election next week; two candidates for three seats. Now four have announced write-in campaigns but only two of those four are really "campaigning". The real frustration is how hard they are trying to trash the district/current BOE while pushing for one of the seats. I feel like asking them "if things are really as bad as you are suggesting, why didn't you put your name on the ballot to begin with?". Worse yet is that one of the serious write-in candidates has obvious backing from the political machine. His operation is highly organized and he is definitely well financed. Just sent out a four-page, four-color pamphlet to voters. FOR SCHOOL BOARD.

JFC

Last year, Chevron Corp. reported more than $21 billion in net income and $220 billion in revenue. Kilbreth said the company has the resources, but not the desire to improve efficiency and reduce pollution at its refinery.

“Pollution is free, so there is no economic reason to reduce it,” Kilbreth wrote.
