I think I may have asked this a while ago, but for all you single folk (or anybody, I guess), about how much per month do you spend on food? Including restaurants (this is mostly Chipotle and similarly priced places), I spend about $600 a month, which seems like too much to me, but my eating isn't what I would consider excessive.

I'm probably right around where you are, Slowhand. If you're like me and don't bring lunch to work that's probably about $40 per week right there. Eating dinner out once or twice a week is another $50, then about $75 or so per week in groceries

I think my wife calculated that we were spending something like $900 a month on groceries. We rarely eat out. I'll have to pull that up again when I get home and see if I'm misremembering.

We're right in the same ballpark for groceries. I think we budget about $900 a month and usually are right on the money. That includes feeding two young kids and buying some pricier organic type shit from wegmans, some grass fed meats here and there, etc.

What works for me is paying all bills and investments/savings on the first of the month and leaving enough in checking to withdraw $100 cash each week. Avoid using credit for day-to-day stuff. Forced efficiency

Our finances are basically separate, and she does the same thing. I started doing this when I was broke right after college and never stopped

No it's more like we split rent/mortgage and I pay a few of the bills each month and she the rest. Our system was working well when we were dating so we never changed it
