Spending $30-$50/week on lunch adds up real quick

That's probably one of my problems in that I've essentially given up processed food, and buying whole foods can get pricey after a while. And I've started buying grass fed organic meat, etc. Back when I was eating like crap and not active I could probably do $300 a month or whatever by buying a bunch of frozen dinners, etc. Of course I also eat out every day at work which doesn't help.

I don't really consider restaurants part of the food budget--it's part of the entertainment budget. I figure we're at about $600 at the grocery store for the 3 of us, but that includes cat food, and cleaning products and toiletries and stuff. Also, I really think that for three people, preparing your meals is cheaper than prepared food.

It really makes a difference what you eat--a dozen eggs are like 1.30, a pretty cheap protein. Buying meat on special can save a ton--sometime this weekend, Mrs. Vulture and I will fix some NY strip steaks I bought for 4.99 a pound. Boston Butt is a very economical--slower cooker for awhile and you've got a mess of pulled pork (enough for maybe two dinners for everyone) for about 8 bucks. Roast a chicken--dinner and lunch for about the same depending on its size.

Imagine a meal of NY strip steak, some frozen vegetables, and perhaps a sweet potato--that's a pretty nice meal for under 10 bucks. Now, obviously, you can't eat like that every night, but if you did, you'd be at $300 a month for dinner.

What happens first: a Giroux goal, a Phillies pitching coach or an Eagles win at home?

Just added it all up... $611.06 on "food" in October. That includes credit card purchases at restaurants and grocery stores, but nothing with cash (which would be a rare occurrence anyway). A few of the larger restaurant purchases were for two people but everything else was just me. Looks like the grocery stores include about $20 in beer from Wegmans and could also include stuff like trash bags, dog treats, etc. I didn't look for purchases at the liquor store or beer distributor, though.

I should probably start bringing lunch to work. Actually I just started working from home two days every week so that should help. Oh and I downloaded the 34 day free trial for YNAB last night.. it's neat and should be very helpful if I can stick with it.
Another day, another box of stolen pens.

Our free flu shots are here. I like to hold out awhile, because if it's a late Flu season, I want the shot to be effective in the spring. But I don't want to wait too long, in case flu starts up early or they run out of shots.

I dont think that is how it works. The flu shot has a weakened or dead strand of the virus. This allows your body to create the antibodies needed to fight off and kill the flu. Those antibodies remain in your body. The flu comes in different strands each year so it is slightly different which is why you need to get the flu shot every year.

Yeah the main flu shot this season has 3 strands. There is one with a 4th common strand if you are considered at high risk for the flu.
