No it's more like we split rent/mortgage and I pay a few of the bills each month and she the rest. Our system was working well when we were dating so we never changed it

I eat out 5 times a week and eat a lot in general. My monthly food bill usually borders around $300, and I thought that was pretty high. $600 a month is insane.

Looks like we spent about $700 last month on food for family of four. Helps that when I'm traveling for work I'm on expense, and when I'm not traveling we rarely eat out, maybe order pizzas a couple times a month.

I guess a lot of it depends where you live though. I could easily go to the deli down the street and get a huge 6 dollar hoagie. Or get wings at the place nearby for under .50 a wing. I'd imagine most can't do that.

This is what we were doing before mrs 1 quit her job. We each have our own accounts and a joint checking that takes care of the majority of the bills. Seems normal to me. What do the rest of you do?

yeah, we got married when we were both established, so we kept separate accounts. Basically I pay the mortgages, utilities, and insurances and all the bills I rack up. She does the grocery shopping and the majority of the kid's expenses and pays for her phones and gas and car payments, and any bills she racks up. She also books and pays for the yearly vacation rental.

Yes, Calvin, she gets mad when I drink her orange juice.

While my wife and I were dating we opened a joint account before we even moved in together as a vacation fund. We'd both put money in every paycheck so we could go on good vacations together. Then when we started living together we just changed our direct deposit to the joint account we already had and paid everything out of that. It just seemed like the easiest way to do things through the years.

You can save a shitload of money by buying Lean Cuisines and Smart Ones when they're 50% off or 5 for $10 or something like that, then you're spending $10/week ($40/month) on lunch (and maybe another $5 for a big bag of pretzels or whatever for the times you're hungry again 2 hours later). Spending $30-$50/week on lunch adds up real quick
