in 2004 I was fairly well convinced we were headed towards an imperial state with big brother watching over our shoulder and secret police water boarding our own citizens. I mean, I think they're jackasses and probably couldn't give you 1) a definition of socialism or 2) an example of how Obama is a socialist but I understand the emotional reaction.

This makes our military sound more incompetent than the Empire's stormtroopers. You'd think it would make people wonder.

The number of posters here who would be hinting or openly claiming the election was stolen if Romney won is a number greater than zero. Electronic voting or some other boogeyman would be the culprit.

There would be long rants about money buying elections. Romney would be illegitimate because he lied his way to the White House. Etc.

I've been on the inside of big events where we pay for a well-known keynote speaker. You pick 'em up at the airport, direct them to the podium, etc. Sometimes you get to hobnob in the green room or c0cktail reception. Most folks are really gracious, but the two biggest horses' patoots were Bob Woodward and Chris Matthews. The kindest, sweetest, most patient? Barbara Bush. Locally, Larry Kane also a good guy.

I've heard Carville was pretty much in real life the way he is on TV, but is a real people person and very cooperative with the event planners and gracious about people lining up to have their picture taken with him.

If Romney won those would likely be fair points. Shit, some are fair points now.

Yes, but those suspicions would at least be based on the pre-ED state polling. What Calvin is talking about is entirely different (military ballots).

Maybe it's b/c of

Obama lost every county in West Virginia. That was a swing state as recently as 2000.

I'm trying to figure out what this means. Do you mean that people vote in states and the majority of votes determine who gets the electoral votes for that state which are determined by square miles? So if a majority of voters in Rhode Island (274,000) voted for Obama he would get lets say 1 EV (compared to 4 now) and if a majority of voters in Alaska vote for Romney (121,000) they would get 485 EVs (because Alaska is 485 Xs as large as RI) compared to 3 now.

But why would he have been shut out? Vermont, RI, DC, Mass, CT all look like they had a majority of "geography". But it would have been a smaller number of EVs.

Now that I think about it, we already do give power to geography. California has as many Senators as Wyoming despite having 66 times the number of people.

yes, that's exactly what I meant. And I disclaimed with a "may have been" because I didn't really look closely, just at the overall redness.

but the senate was designed to give all states equal representation, wasn't it? the house takes care of the population-based representation (as messed up as it might currently be).

also, dave, is that last map an artist's interpretation or what?
