People think they're OK with gays but the sight of two men holding hands in public still provokes ill-feelings in many.

Do you think it is bigotry to prevent two 16 year olds from marrying?

this is a step above the "people will be marrying animals in no time!" argument

Please. They're pushing to defend DOMA (which so far has proved to be 100% indefensible) and have openly supported a gay marriage ban being inserted into the U.S. Constitution. The Federalism argument is pretextual nonsense. They don't want to leave it to the states at all.

we were talking about gay rights.

but to address this, our definitions of what is considered a "baby" probably differs by a lot. there is a lot of gray area there and i concede that. but there isn't any gray area in defining gay people as real human beings

You haven't a clue what you're talking about. I know because I've experienced it. Until you get that look of disdain from people for simply wanting to experience a basic human right, you'll never fully understand why it's bigotry. If it's not looks, it's insults, at times even from your own family.

Yes, they all love the gays but deep down inside, there are still prejudices and you dismissing that isn't helping matters, since you're pro gay marriage and all.

Personally, I hate holding anyone's hands. Unless you're a parent holding your child's hand in the street, what exactly is the purpose?

If we're on a date, please don't grab my hand and hold it. I find it annoying.

Werthless by your logic supporting segregation isn't racist but calling someone out for that viewpoint is bigotry

Is that really a good comparison? Being 16 isn't a group defining characteristic. Being 16 is temporary and everyone who lives long enough is 16 and then if they live long enough they are no longer 16. Everyone is treated equally and there is no group that has different rights than another group.

He's saying it's not wrong to hold the views of denying rights to gays, so yeah.

I think we're sort of at the root of the philosophical differences. People who rely on religious beliefs to set their values feel that their beliefs intrinsically can't be bigoted because those are the beliefs of a widely practiced theology.
