New Yorkers are weirdly authoritarian. I guess they took those 70s movies based on the horrors of an anarchic city (Death Wish, Shaft, Escape from New York, The Warriors, etc.) too seriously.

Ryan: It’s the foundation for society and for family for thousands of years. First of all, Mitt Romney and I — I’ll just say it, it’s worth repeating — we believe marriage is between one man and one woman, that’s number one. Number two, you know where I come from we had one of those amendments in Wisconsin, I was a big supporter of it and we passed it like you say, where it’s put on the ballot it passes.

...

A Romney administration will protect traditional marriage and the rule of law and we will provide the Defense of Marriage Act the proper defense in the courts that it deserves.

So how does it feel to be voting for an unabashed bigot?

This week Romney apparently believes that it should be up to the states to decide whether or not a spouse or child of gay and lesbian men and women should have the right to visit their loved ones in the hospital. He believes that being able to visit a dying spouse in the hospital is a "privilege," not a right. Following mixed messages from Romney regarding his pledged support for the federal anti-gay-marriage amendment, Romney campaign adviser Bay Buchanan told Buzzfeed's Chris Geidner, "Governor Romney also believes, consistent with the 10th Amendment, that it should be left to states to decide whether to grant same-sex couples certain benefits, such as hospital visitation rights and the ability to adopt children."

As an armor officer, we used to heat up our MREs and our drinks with the heat eminating from the turbine. The back deck was also the preferred sleeping area, especially in cold weather, as the radiant heat would last for hours after the turbine was shut down.

I'm talking about the huge amounts of money that has been spent on acquistion programs that have never even had a working prototype much less an actual delivery of an operational piece of equipment. There's also a slew of funding tricks that are used within DoD associated with certain "colors" of money that have little oversight on how the money is spent.

For instance, flight hours that determine training proficiency for helicopter crews should be pretty much the same for the Army Reserve, the Army National Guard and the Active Army, right? So if it takes 8 hours of flight time per month to meet individual aviation training requirements, the funding required for those hours should be the same...but the issue is that the Army says that there are three different standards associated with the training requirements, and there's a defined dollar amount associated with each hour of flight time.

To no one's surprise, the Active Army flight hour requirements are almost double those of the Reserve and Guard...which means they get a LOT more money...but the training proficiency requirements for aviation crews within all three components of the Army are exactly the same....in other words, if it takes 8 hours to train an aviation crew in the Reserve, it should take 8 hours to train a crew in the Active Duty...

While I disagree with Romney/Ryan on this issue, what about his statement makes him a bigot?

I would say that labeling an opponent a bigot, based on a simple expression of a position, is an example of bigotry.

You don't think enforcing "marriage equality" or turning a blind eye to family members being denied visitation rights could be defined as bigotry?

That's because you're straight and can get married. Go try marrying a dude in your city and see what happens. The sort of looks you'll get will tell you all you need to know.

People think they're OK with gays but the sight of two men holding hands in public still provokes ill-feelings in many.

You can argue semantics but if it doesn't make him a bigot, it most certainly makes him an asshole.

Don't know why betting markets have Obama around 58% to win. At best it's probably 50/50 and by next week Romney might be the favorite if the state polls keep inching towards him.

If you define a person's position (Instead of the federal government, states should decide who can do _______) as bigotry requires a large leap. Classifying your political opponents as bigots/assholes/jerks is exactly the definition of bigotry, which amused me. Again, I'm pro gay marriage, but not every person that opposes me is a bigot. And nothing about Ryan's statement suggested hatred or animosity. Understand?

Do you think it is bigotry to prevent two 16 year olds from marrying?
